There was a time in my life when I had no money. I was practically living from hand to mouth, and life for me at that point was total frustration and confusion. Having to deal with how to take care of my personal, academic and family needs at the same time was hell of struggles, and the only thing I was thinking was how to break free from the bondage.
Hubo una época de mi vida en la que no tenía dinero. Prácticamente vivía a duras penas, y la vida para mí en ese momento era de total frustración y confusión. Tener que lidiar con cómo atender mis necesidades personales, académicas y familiares al mismo tiempo era un infierno de luchas, y lo único que pensaba era cómo liberarme de la esclavitud.
I call it bandage because I believe every human being have their personal and other needs they aspire to meet, and whenever they find themselves in a state where they are not free to meet these rising needs, it become more like slavery on their part, especially when they have nobody out there to assist, support or aid them.
Lo llamo venda porque creo que todo ser humano tiene sus necesidades personales y de otro tipo que aspira a satisfacer, y siempre que se encuentra en un estado en el que no es libre de satisfacer estas necesidades crecientes, se convierte más bien en una esclavitud por su parte, especialmente cuando no tiene a nadie que le asista, apoye o ayude.
One thing that kept me going at that time was the fact that I've got an "idea", a business idea. Even though it was difficult for me, thinking on a daily basis on how I would implement or put this idea to work, I needed findings badly but I have had to encourage myself. Holding on to the fact that one day I will get help to put my Idea to work.
Una cosa que me hizo seguir adelante en ese momento fue el hecho de que tengo una "idea" de negocio idea. Aunque me resultaba difícil, pensar a diario en cómo iba a poner en práctica esta idea, necesitaba urgentemente los resultados, pero he tenido que animarme. Aferrándome al hecho de que un día conseguiré ayuda para poner mi Idea en funcionamiento.
The idea I had was to start a point of sales (POS) business in my local area, where people can do local transactions like: withdrawals, transfer/sending of money, paying bills or even buying of call credit.
La idea que tenía era poner en marcha un punto de venta (TPV) en mi localidad, donde la gente pudiera hacer transacciones locales como: retiradas, transferencias/envíos de dinero, pago de facturas o incluso compra de crédito de llamadas.
This idea was not just fueled by the fact that I had no job at that time and I needed to do a business, but I found a need. I discovered that there was one Automated teller machine (ATM) close by my locality and I’ll see people queuing everyday to get money. Some will wait for long, only to realize the ATM is no longer dispensing cash. So it was a great business opportunity/idea, solving an existing need for a service.
Esta idea no sólo fue alimentada por el hecho de que no tenía trabajo en ese momento y necesitaba hacer un negocio, sino que encontré una necesidad. Descubrí que había un cajero automático (ATM) cerca de mi localidad y veía a la gente haciendo cola todos los días para sacar dinero. Algunos esperan durante mucho tiempo, sólo para darse cuenta de que el cajero ya no dispensa dinero. Así que fue una gran oportunidad/idea de negocio, resolviendo una necesidad existente de un servicio.
The issue of had with this idea was the fact that, it’s requires not just a capital but the one that is big and big enough; such that would be able to satisfy the customers to keep them coming like I would always say. This is true because, any business that must succeed and stand a test of time, must first consider the interest of customers. Striving on how to meet the needs of the people should the goal of every business that want to succeed. Thus, when people are satisfy with any services rendered unto them, they are willing to pay for it and that is where the joy of every business lies.
El problema que tuve con esta idea fue el hecho de que, no sólo requiere un capital, sino uno que sea lo suficientemente grande; tal que sea capaz de satisfacer a los clientes para que sigan viniendo, como siempre digo. Esto es cierto porque, cualquier negocio que deba tener éxito y resistir la prueba del tiempo, debe considerar primero el interés de los clientes. El objetivo de toda empresa que quiera tener éxito debe ser satisfacer las necesidades de la gente. Así, cuando la gente está satisfecha con los servicios que se le prestan, está dispuesta a pagar por ellos y ahí es donde reside la alegría de todo negocio.
What did I do to solve the issue stopping my Idea from coming into manifestation? Collecting a loan was an option for me, but who is willing to give a boy that have no income a loan, When I don’t have anything to stake as collateral? These were the thought in my head.
¿Qué hice para resolver el problema que impedía que mi idea se manifestara? Pedir un préstamo era una opción para mí, pero ¿quién está dispuesto a dar un préstamo a un chico que no tiene ingresos, cuando no tengo nada que poner como garantía? Estos eran los pensamientos en mi cabeza.
But I had to device another way of making things work for myself, so I went to some relatives of mine and I told "please I am in need, I want to startup a business and I don't have the startup capital, but I have an idea. I was hundred percent sure this idea would generate income from it". I told almost about twenty (20) persons including family and friends but I only got support from only one person. He gave me a little amount of money that wasn't enough to start up the business.
Pero tuve que ingeniármelas para hacer que las cosas funcionaran por mí mismo, así que me dirigí a unos familiares míos y les dije "por favor, estoy necesitado, quiero poner en marcha un negocio y no tengo el capital inicial, pero tengo una idea. Estaba cien por cien seguro de que esta idea generaría ingresos con ella". Se lo conté a casi veinte (20) personas, entre familiares y amigos, pero sólo obtuve el apoyo de una persona. Me dio una pequeña cantidad de dinero que no era suficiente para poner en marcha el negocio.
However, I decided to start no matter how small. I went to the bank and requested for a point of sales (POS) Terminal (machine). I paid just a little amount of money for insurances fee and they gave out one of it to me. And I signed agreement with the bank to share the profits from the business by 60/40 percent.
Sin embargo, decidí empezar por poco que fuera. Fui al banco y solicité un terminal de punto de venta (TPV). Pagué sólo una pequeña cantidad de dinero en concepto de seguro y me dieron uno. Y firmé un acuerdo con el banco para compartir los beneficios del negocio en un 60/40 por ciento.
The implication is that, whatever the business generates as interest; I will take 60 percent while the bank goes with 40 percent. It was not too good for me but I had no choice, I accepted the condition just so I could get the POS terminal for free.
La implicación es que, lo que el negocio genere como interés, yo me quedaré con el 60 por ciento mientras que el banco se queda con el 40 por ciento. No era demasiado bueno para mí, pero no tenía otra opción, acepté la condición sólo para poder conseguir el terminal de punto de venta gratis.
One month, two month, three month in the business was not easy for me at all because of the little capital amount I started with. But after three months, I’ve already set up the business, so I applied for a loan from bank and they sent delegates to inspect the business, when the saw that the business was running fine and all I needed was just proper funding they gave me a loan.
Un mes, dos meses, tres meses en el negocio no fue nada fácil para mí debido a la poca cantidad de capital con la que empecé. Pero después de tres meses, ya he creado el negocio, así que solicité un préstamo al banco y enviaron delegados para inspeccionar el negocio, cuando vieron que el negocio funcionaba bien y todo lo que necesitaba era una financiación adecuada, me dieron un préstamo.
Guess what? The business shifted level and I was able to get additional two machines to open another branch. Even the capital became enough for me to run the business in two branches and now I can boast of income coming in, on a daily basis.
¿Adivina qué? El negocio cambió de nivel y pude conseguir dos máquinas más para abrir otra sucursal. Incluso el capital se convirtió en suficiente para llevar el negocio en dos sucursales y ahora puedo presumir de ingresos que entran, sobre una base diaria.
That was it, the journey was and is not a smooth one, there may have be ups and down but I am determine to succeed as an entrepreneur.
Eso fue todo, el viaje fue y no es fácil, puede haber tienen altibajos pero estoy decidido a tener éxito como empresario.
