2026: walking time

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITYlast month

There is something special about walking before the world fully wakes up. The air is cooler, the roads are calmer, and even the smallest moments feel more meaningful. On this Sunday morning walk with my friend Faith, I experienced not only the beauty of nature but also a simple act of kindness that made the day even more memorable.

This time the weather was good—perhaps one of the best mornings for walking. The cool air was carried by the Amihan wind, brushing gently against the skin. I arrived early and waited for a little while. Soon the road slowly filled with people beginning their routines. Some were running, others walking briskly. A few ran alone while others had companions beside them.

I couldn’t help but envy those who could easily break into a sweat. Unlike them, when the wind is cool like this, it takes a long time before I even feel warm enough to sweat.

At 5 a.m., my friend Faith joined me. We agreed to meet at the corner near her house while the road was still slightly dark. As we walked toward Cordova, something unexpected happened—I suddenly needed to find a toilet. I suspected the ginger tea I drank before leaving the house. Drinking it before a long walk was probably not the best idea.

The problem was that there were no open cafés, fast food restaurants, or even gas stations nearby. I had a few uneasy moments until we reached a small carenderia by the roadside. I politely asked the owner if I could use their toilet. Thankfully, he was very kind and guided me to the back where it was located.

What a relief that moment was. His simple act of kindness truly made my morning. I silently wished that their business would continue to prosper.

After that, we continued walking toward the new CCLEX road. We passed the small police shed where I once took shelter from the rain during another Sunday walk.

Today the atmosphere was completely different. The sky was blue, airplanes flew overhead toward the airport, herons glided across the distance, and the fishpond under the mangroves rested quietly.

At the end of the road we reached the wet market where joggers often gather after coming from the CCLEX bridge. Some bought fresh coconuts, while others enjoyed hot sekwati and puto maya. We sat for a while and ordered one each.

Before leaving, I bought a ripe abana fruit that looked too tempting to ignore.

As we walked back home, the sun slowly became stronger and warmer on our skin. The quiet morning was turning into a busy day for the people in the town.

Our Sunday walk may seem simple, but it was filled with small moments that made it special — the cool Amihan breeze, the calm mangroves, the conversations about dreams and adventures, and the kindness of a stranger who helped me in an unexpected moment.

Sometimes the best memories are not grand adventures but simple walks, shared laughter, and the kindness we meet along the way.

I wonder what story the next Sunday walk will bring.

I haven’t tried jogging or walking at CCLEX yet, and it seems like I wouldn’t be able to because it’s quite far.

Good thing the owner of the carinderia was kind enough to allow you to use their toilet. The stomach can easily get upset in the morning, so we have to be careful about what we eat.
