The day after the typhoon and the lessons I needed to learn!

The dreaded day came, and the night was over. But the ramification is starting to beg for attention.

I woke up at around 7 in the morning thirsty with pain all over my body. I pause for a while, check my phone, and look for my cats. The house was in chaos, stuff are everywhere, no power, but I still not hear any meowing from their favorite corner. I checked the back area and debris was all over the place. It turned into an alfresco dining area in an instant with all sides stripped off of their walls.

I decided to roam around my neighborhood and as everyone expected, the village was like in carnage. Downed trees, tin roofs everwhere, ceiling collapsed, tangled utility wirings, and stuff doomsday movies are made of. And I am not even exxagerating.

As I walk further outside, the situation was even more devastating. Across the street from the village entrance, I noticed a man probably in his 50's picking up pieces of materials he can salvage for his house. He was down on his knees sweating while he pile up some sticks and looking toward his house that was completely damage and bow his head for a few seconds. He was one of the many people that day that tries to rise from the debris of a catasthropic storm. I cleared my throat and held back my tears hoping for a better days ahead.

I walk back home bringing myself a lesson and a new sense of priority. Reminding me of life uncertainties and precariousness. That everything can happen and snatch out from you in an instant. That life as we know it, was not created to everyone equal. Some people may have a hard time recovering. Some may not recover at all. Life is unfair and will never be. And that by being kind and giving we may make life fairer to everyone.

The morning sun rises as I continue walking and then a black cat emerges as I approach the door. He was waiting for me the whole time.

I feel sorry for the old man, people of age and having no resources truly have it worse than some. I hope that your government can do more to help their citizens and provide help especially to those who desperately need it like old people and children.

He is still waiting for govt intervention until now unfortunately as they still need to assess the damages. He made a makeshift shelter besides the main structure. :(

That's so sad to hear :((

Labaaan lang ta

hanggan kelan tayo lalaban? Charot lang, wala tay choice kundi lumaban sa hamon ng panahon

Hahaha need to fight till we can stand on our own. 🥰

Reading this, especially the point where the old man was trying to salvage his things, made me wonder if he had any life savings. It would be great if he did, because he will be able to repair most of the damages and start again. But what if he didn't? How on earth is he going to recover from this? 😔

There is a grant offered by the govt but due to heirarchy issue it may take some times for the funds to be released. Until now he still waiting for the funds and made a temporary shelter to house his family

Ka sad ani uie. Laban lang jud ta ani ferds! 😌

Very well said! I couldnt agree more. Same realizations during the post-typhoon days. It is sad to know that some will have a hard time recover in this crisis! I hope we can all stand together again. Stronger and better!

yes let us help those vulnerable people and those that dont have the capacity to give back

I hope wa ra kaayu ma unsa inyu house. Wa pa r ba daw naka balik kurente sa mabolo

Kaluy-an sa Ginoo, wala ra juy damage sa amung balay. Na-alihan mi ug mas tag-as nga mga balay. Then gahapun, balik na kurente. Timing kaayu kay class na naku karung hapun. First day high sa online, hehe. How about diha sa Carcar?

I really can't fathom the idea of how strong this typhoon was. I'm really sorry for the loss of the whole of Cebu. I can't imagine witnessing several and continuous fallen trees with my own eyes. I mean as a tropical country, we really are immune to seeing fallen trees whenever a storm destroyed us, but this is a whole lot scenario and a trauma for many. :<<
