Random street view Jalan Raja Chulan

I'm not a photography guy. Given the phone camera has a crazy 64MPX, I can still screw up photos sometimes, especially low light shooting. However, my interest in photography has always been recording the sky. I know sky photo can be very spammy, but one doesn't get the same sky ever, just like time. Once it's past, it's history. One can never recreate it again. And therefore I always like to take photo of the sky.

Having said that, when the sky is so blue that it has virtually nothing there to take, which means I will be using the blue backdrops and take photo of the surrounding object. And in Kuala Lumpur, buildings. Lots of lots of buildings which I don't usually see anymore after we moved to the Northern side suburb.

Isn't it funny how "distance" can create the kind of illusion for us, as if the lamp pole is even taller than one of the tallest building in Kuala Lumpur, the KL tower. I can still faintly recall, when this tower held their opening ceremony, it was the world 3rd tallest freestanding tower, but now it has been dwarfed by other much taller towers around the world. Sometimes I was wondering, why do we need these tall structure that seemingly does absolutely nothing?

Now I know, it served 2 purpose. 1 being radio transmitting tower, so it can broadcast signal the the city. Another, well... GDP, expenses, someone get to set the project up, and someone get to "bid" the project. I'm not saying if there's any wrong doing, I'm just assuming everything was done properly, including spending multiple billion dollars to construct a radio braodcasting stick right at the middle of the city. The aqbove picture is the exact scenery from my previous workplace decade ago.

Across the street is The Weld building. We used to walk here for lunch, and even weekend I'll bring the kids to visit this place. It has a very small shopping gallery there. Many years ago, there was this scandal happened here. A martial art center were setup inside the mall, and I signed up for the membership to learn Capoeira, you know those kind of Brazilian martial art that involved with thunderous kind of acrobatic move(ok imagine how fat and round I am, and spent most of my evening rolling on the floor rather than kicking). Just like any other Gym membership, they charge upfront, and held 2 months as deposit since we make use of their locker and facilities. Within a year, suddenly they locked the door and even left the staff without paying their last month salary. And ofcourse, never return of my deposits. We did lodge a complaint to the consumer affair, and just like any other case, documentation were not done properly. Case dismissed.

Last photo of the street before we head to Wisma Lim Foo Yong, the other day I'v shared about the dimsum restaurant, this Holiday Inn express standing right beside it. Before this building turned to a hotel, it was actually ING building.

Original photograph from Claudia Gan, uploaded at leasing website.

Notice the huge crossing escalator at the front door? And a huge glass mirror right at the cross section? I'm not sure if that's true, rumor has it the building is right opposite of the competitor company. They first put a cross at the front door to BLOCK the opponent. But then later, the opponent setup a CANON pointing right back to ING. So they put a huge mirror at the cross section to deflect as counter attack. That's the war of feng shui in this modern city. More interesting read here if you wish to find out more about this nostalgic war. However, we all know who lose it by now since I show you Holiday Inn express is currently occupying the building.
