A Wild Night Tour of Bars in Danang, Vietnam.

Hello Freinds,

I help with a community-run program here in Danang to help spread awareness about things in the city people may not know about. This month, we have a Work Way traveler joining us in Danang. Their task is to write articles about Danang which we will then use on our web page.

The story for this week was some of the city's nightlife.

So, we buckled up and went for a tour de force of some city nightlife.

Stop 1 : United Bar

The first stop was a Speak Easy called "United Bar." The hidden door to this place was a Bhin Mi stall (see images below). Inside was a chill place with drinks that were a little overpriced. Lol

If you are not aware, A speakeasy is a type of illicit establishment that sells alcoholic beverages. These establishments came into existence in the United States during the period known as Prohibition (1920-1933), when the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol was illegal. Speakeasies were often hidden in inconspicuous locations, such as behind a false wall or door, or in the basement of a building.

This is the Door to the Bar

On the inside, the door back out looks like this.

Inside, it has a very chill vibe.

Perhaps it had a speakeasy feel, with the old wood finish and brick walls.

Stop 2 : Karma Lounge

I have written a few times about this location. It's a rather lovely bar in Danang, the music is always good, and the vibe is uplifting.

Again, if you are not aware, Karma is often described as the principle of cause and effect. In Hinduism and Buddhism, karma is the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, and is seen as deciding their fate in future existences.
Karma is often seen as a force that brings about retribution or recompense for an action. For example, if someone steals something, they may believe that bad karma will come their way as a form of punishment.

Why is it name after that... I am not sure.. but, hey, it was fun!

Having them light the bar on fire while people do shots and take photos makes for a fun backdrop to the night.

20221118_225746.jpg

It was quiet on a Friday night, but that is normal during this season in Vietnam.

Stop 3: Hair of the Dog Bar

Less than a block from Karma is their sister bar, Hair of the Dog. This bar is not geared toward the higher-end traveler, so it's a bit more rugged. Lots of confetti and fake money were tossed around, and the drinks were priced more affordable.

I think, Hair of the Dog is a phrase that is used to describe the act of drinking alcohol in order to cure a hangover. The phrase is most likely derived from the belief that drinking alcohol would help to cure a person who a dog had bitten. So, the name does make sense.

I did like this mural of a puppy on the wall; it was excellent!

Loud electronic music is hitting... glad I had my earplugs in, or perhaps I would be deaf.

20221118_233428.jpg

This would be a fun bar for the younger crowd.

Stop 4 : Nuna Lounge

The party train never stops here... haha. JK... A few blocks away was the next stop of the night, Nuna Lounge. This club had a friendly vibe to it as well, and a lot of dancers... like a lot... I think the table up front had about 5 or 7... but they were not dancing when we arrived, just chilling in scantily-clad garments...

While I am again, not sure if its the same, In the Inuit language, the word "nuna" means "land" or "earth". It is also used to refer to the world beyond the physical world, such as the spirit world. The Inuit believe that everything is connected and that we are all connected to the land. The land is our mother and she provides for us. We are all her children. Perhaps its true, as their was a lot of plants on the ceiling.

20221118_234118.jpg

They had a cool general bar hanging thing... I stood for a second and pondered how they got the bottles down from the top...

20221118_234134.jpg

As it had more of an open space, it looked like no one was dancing that much... but some people were jumping around and having a good time.

20221118_234139.jpg

As the sign says, "Trust me, you can dance, "... but that sign has not seen me yet.

20221118_234234.jpg

Excellent place, but then it was on to the next stop for the night.

Stop 5: Kyoto Lounge

You walk down some stairs to the basement of a building when the doors open, laser lights, and pulsing music hit you. This bar (lounge) has low ceilings, which feels tighter than the other places but still rocks.

I think the word "Kyoto" has several different meanings, depending on the context in which it is used. It can refer to the city in Japan, the former capital of the country. It can also be used to refer to the Kyoto Protocol, an international agreement on greenhouse gas emissions. Finally, it can be used more broadly to refer to a Japanese aesthetic or style, characterized by simplicity and beauty.

Anyways, the Flashing LED lights adorn the feeling, and a catwalk dance floor is filled with locals bumping and shaking into the night, got the crew dancing as well.

20221118_235049.jpg

The bar was a glowing collection of bottles and laser beams So many laizers , I hope my eyes were ok.

20221118_235028.jpg

I have never been to Japan, but perhaps this is what nightclubs are like there.

20221118_235039.jpg

If I were less than an honest person, it would be a thieves' dream as piles of cell phones were littering all the tables, and no one was around watching them, like in this photo here, five photos just hanging out... well, I guess its good, phones got to great drunk too!

20221118_235212.jpg

After that, it was back to Karma; I had a drink and returned home around 1 am.

It was fun to see some of the bars that I don't get to see, and experience another side of the city.

Thanks for reading, I hope you have a great day.

Wow, you're right, the amount of lights and neon going could rival Japan, although I really only know from pictures because I've never been. This seems a world away from life here in the Cardamom Mountains, sometimes we and our neighbors forget to leave an outside light on at night, and because there are no major towns for hundreds of kilometers, it becomes pitch black and you can actually see the Milky Way and shooting stars.

I love how the bartenders play up the role with the formal attire, reminds me of scenes from Cocktail with Tom Cruise.

WOW, It would be awesome to see the Milky Way and shooting stars with no light pollution. Being able to see the stars in all their glory would be a truly spectacular experience. I can only imagine how breathtaking it would be to see the night sky in all its splendor. Perhaps I will have to come visit you in Cardamom some time. :D
