Camden's Changing
I'm not a big fan of temporary or ultramodern installations in soulful or historic places like Camden. This particular bit has been put up to replace what was there before. It looks pretty cool, and a lot of people are enjoying it no doubt, but because I know what was there before, it's a downgrade in my view.
It reminds me of the "temporary" boxes that were placed in Shoreditch many years ago, but are still there now. They became too financially successful I suppose. Lots of restaurants, bars and small shops make it attractive to tourists - especially when they're brightly coloured like this one in Camden.

Ah. I'm just being a grouch. It is nice and it does at least fit into the atmosphere. I'm also quite sure that what was there before was so old that it might not have been structurally safe anymore. I don't know. It's just that these places are changing so fast now and sometimes they completely lose their soul in the process.
Peace & Love,
Adé
I'll have to go there again some time. Camden has had a bit of a random, slightly anarchic feel for years and it would be a shame to lose that. I am not a fan of 'modern' shopping areas that have no soul. Enjoy the nice weather.

It's still pretty crazy and random for now, but the change is happening for sure. There are probably enough crazy people there to resist a total change thankfully.
I don't know how Camden looked before, but I do remember Soho from 2013. I remember it still being pretty 'mod' and there was still the classic mod stores selling beatles boots and those rain coats. Dude, what a shame when I went there again in 2019... what a decline! The rock stores were gone and the whole place became a crackhead hotspot. It was so sad that I used to reject deliveroo orders down there. One day, mid morning, the street was closed because someone stabbed a man to death. Wtf!
Soho is probably much worse now than it was in 2019. Mind you, it probably looks different too. I haven't been around there in a while.. but there was a lot of building construction going on. Many of the roads and back streets have been changed to something else. The west part, near Carnaby Street was still nice, but probably fast changing too.
Shame =/
Has the heroin problem gotten worse since then? I remember talking to the hobos near the hostel where I lived. I could see they were nice fellas and really wanted to live better, but addiction wouldn't let.

Dear @adetorrent, sorry to jump in a bit off topic but may I ask you to support the HiveSQL proposal?
It lost its funding recently and your help would be much appreciated to keep the HiveSQL service free for the Hive community.
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency, or using HiveSigner.
Thank you for your support!
Sure.. approved.
Thank you for your support @adetorrent, really appreciate it! 👍
It is a wonderful lively place that will attract many people, especially if it contains major stores and foreign restaurants.
Hahaha. I hope not :)
These places should be taken care of in the future in order to be a great front for tourism.
I agree. I think we need to preserve the soul of the place.
Maybe what your really trying to say is that your preferred stored memory of the area is more rich to you than whatever they could put there. It's how you want to remember the space, maybe it's some kinda spatial thing you have. I totally get this.
Oh that's interesting actually, and most likely true. I'm scared of going to Soho now, since they've put the new tube line "Elizabeth Line" in. I can only imagine what's now missing. lol.
So now are you saying the "ultra" whatever they're changing isn't better than what's there before?
That's exactly what I'm saying :)
Hey man. I miss you on dtube. Come back again. ;)
I’ve heard about this and having spent a lot of time there in the past with my brother, various friends and photographed a load of gigs. I got to know it a tiny bit. Obviously not inside out as I live outside of London. What’s happening here sounds like the same disease seeping into so many other places or some kind of gentrification.
