I Need To Get Out More

looking_out_1.jpg

I am an antisocial extrovert. Oxymorons have more fun! I love good company but years of working in bars and restaurants have left me with little patience for other sorts of company. Good company is hard to find and sorting the wheat from the chaff is a lot of work, I'd rather go shooting.

That distracts me for a while but eventually I still have to get my fill of interaction. With the world doing a beautiful imitation of going to pieces outside my window, I'm disinclined to do so in person.

I've met lots of awesome people here on the hive but I have the tendency not to venture too far outside my feed. To remedy this I'm asking for y'alls help, any recommendations for accounts on here to follow?

@dandays you've recommended me many times, can you recommend me someone?

Photos are all looking out windows from the various buildings of Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky.

I've blowin up the same people lately. I should probably open window feed too. 🤔

@zo3d if you're not already, she hikes like every day. @stevenson7, that dudes good with photos like you are. @nineclaws is brand new, super artsy.. for a chick.

Thanks Dan! Hello @coloneljethro so are you a real deal colonel or is it just a screen name? Tell us about yourself seeing as your profile is a little vague and I have no idea where Louisville is in the States. I’m from Cape Town, South Africa so I know the big name places and we’re generally pretty good at geography, but Louisville sounds like a small Town place. What you up to?

..we’re generally pretty good at geography.

You and everyone else compared to an American.

😂 it’s funny coz it’s true! Although some Brits come in a close second.

Howdy @zo3d, pleased to meet you! We like to joke here that Louisville is the biggest small town ever, mainly because you can't go out to a bar without running into an ex, but it's about 750,000 people (according to wikipedia it's the 29th largest in the US). It's in the state of Kentucky about 8 hours inland from the east coast, along the Ohio River, and home of the Kentucky Derby horse race and Muhammad Ali, along with lots of bourbon. Oh, and if you heard the name Breonna Taylor mentioned in connection to protests in the past year or two, it was the police here in Louisville that killed her.

As for my screen name, it's a combination of two old nicknames of mine, I've never served in the military. It's also something of a joke, a Kentucky Colonel is a title of honor bestowed by the state as well as the object of mockery in some of Hunter S Thompson's writings. Mostly I just thought it'd be funny to sign things The Reverend Colonel (I'm also an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church).

It was deliberately vague, I miss the anonymity of the early days of the internets and hate writing about myself. Short version: anarchist hillbilly photographer with a background in history and political science. There isn't a long version but I'll be happy to give better answers after I've had a bit of sleep (it's after midnight here and I just got home from work).

I'm actually reading A Human Being Died That Night about Eugene de Kock right now, so it's doubly neat to meet someone from South Africa.

Ok getting a better idea of Louisville now! Definitely recognised the Breona Taylor reference.

Ordained!!! Good on ya!

I’ve worked as a Creative Producer for our church (Hillsong) here in Cape Town for our large events for 12 years but quit almost 2 years ago to immigrate (which didn’t happen due to Covid) so now I’m a “home creative” and avid hiker.

Winters keeping me indoors today but hopefully I’ll get to hike again on Thursday when the sun shines.

Our politics and government have never made it easy for us here in South Africa, but I think I’ve managed to grow up with a liberal and integrated outlook on life.

Night night.

If you have any curiosity about in regards to Breonna Taylor, check out this old post of mine. It's long but it'll give you a better idea of what I post/do than any description I could write.

Good on ya!

Don't get too excited, it's one of those churches where you pay a fee and fill out a form and you get ordained. I can legally officiate weddings in several states though (and have performed one).

politics and government have never made it easy for us

I think you might be on to some sort of universal truth here.

I always forget about the seasons being flipped in your hemisphere. It's hotter than hell here, 30C and barely past noon.

May the weather be with you on Thursday!

I see your technique

Thanks for such kind words and also drawing my attention to another user to check out. You're so good at that and I appreciate it.
Not sure what you do with chickens though, kind of questionable, maybe stick to fish?

Are you calling me a cock?!?!?

I thought this might be you....the green 2 percent factor feature.

Thank you sir. @stevenson7 I'm familiar with but the other two are new to me.

Open window feed just sounds like a good way to get swarmed by pigeons...

Tried real hard to type a pigeon sound but it looks like an owl

You warn't holdin' yer mouth right!

Dan, you've earned quite the reputation you know. 😅

Feeling a tiny bit butt hurt @dandays

You're no stranger to Jethro.

As if

antisocial extrovert

😂 I like that. I'm a 50/50.

I like people but I also like being the hell away from them. I tend to alternate between the two, how does 50/50 play out for you?

Hahaha! It depends on the person for me. How the 50/50 works is I enjoy people very much. Some are draining for various reasons, so I place limits there. Others, where I don't experience that I don't need to limit because they are aware of how much is too much. I always need down time to recharge, so whatever the situation, I ensure that I build that time into my life. I've noticed it seems to work out to be a 50/50 split, if I run the numbers for a set period of time.
