Realized today that I hadn't posted anything in black and white in a hot minute. More like a month. Needed a break from staring at Red River Gorge photos so I went wandering through the folders a bit.

Seems like every time I go shooting there's at least one or two things that catch my eye that don't quite fit with the rest of what I'm shooting. I shoot'em anyway but never quite know what to do with'em so they wind up sitting in a folder gathering digital dust.

Like this one, snapped it in between the memorial and the vigil for the (1st) mass shooting here in Louisville. By the time I was done editing photos from all that I didn't even want to see another photo from those days for a while.

Any of y'all ever do ambush photography? Post up somewhere out of sight and line up a shot and then just wait for someone to stumble into you field of fire? It can be lots of fun, plus half the time your subjects apologize for getting in your shot. Now if only all street photography encounters could go like that...

The heads bowed crowd in the background is something of a who's who of these parts. There's a mayor, governor, archbishop, US Representative, state senator, and chief of police in there but it was the state trooper in a suit guarding them that really caught my eye. You can't really tell it in black and white but his whole head was starting to turn that reddish-purple color that seemed to indicate heatstroke or a nasty sunburn was in his future and he just seemed miserable.

It's always good to end on a reflective note, right? Pretty sure this guy is reflecting how how he managed to scratch 'rent-a-cop guarding the site of a mass shooting' off his bucket list.
Some sceneries are meant to be taken pictures of just in black & white. While b&w colours give a pretty gray mood, this kind of photos manages to point out some characteristics better than any filter.
Right! Sometimes you just have to get rid of all those distracting colors. Most of the stuff I've been working on lately has largely been shades of green, making that b&w hasn't gone well, lots of the 'gray mood'.
i loved this one, it is almost like a look to the past
A time warp to the 1950s! It's not everyday you come across one of those old Ford Thunderbirds, I couldn't pass up the opportunity when I spotted it.
