Photography, among other things, serves to freeze with a certain precision what we perceive... Photography, also among other things, has the quality of sitting in front us and explaining us a lot about we want to know about ourselves... Photography, at a certain point in our lives, is not just the moment of capture, a short edit and sharing.... No, there is a point in the life of certain lucky people (not many, by the way) where photography is a catalyst, a creative entity which allows for transformations. This, at least in my case, is especially true when it comes to street photography...

La fotografía, entre otras cosas, sirve para congelar con cierta precisión lo que percibimos... La fotografía,también entre otras cosas, tiene la cualidad de sentarse en frente de nosotros y explicarnos mucho de lo que queremos saber respecto a nosotros mismos... La fotografía, en cierto punto de nuestras vidas, no es solo el momento de la captura, una corta edición y compartirla... No, hay un punto en la vida de ciertos afortunados (no muchos por cierto) en donde la fotografía es un catalizador, un ente creativo el cual permite transformaciones. Esto, cuando menos en mi caso, es especialmente cierto cuando se trata de fotografía callejera...

Eighteen or twenty years ago (I don't remember it well anymore, and I don't want to remember it either) I didn't take pictures in the streets and therefore I wasn't anything like the "crazy guy with the camera in his hand"... No, back then I was a technology manager with a company timetable and a lot of stress constantly fulminating my brain... Then a guy (a psychologist) who sat once a week in front of me when we were in his office, had the brilliant idea to tell me that I should have a hobby, some activity different from my work in which to invest part of my time... There began this strange idyll which ended up turning me into an even more atypical being than I already was at that time...

Dieciocho o veinte años atrás (ya no lo recuero bien y tampoco deseo recordarlo) yo no hacía fotos en las calles y por ende no era nada parecido al "loco con la cámara en la mano"... No, en aquel entonces yo era un gerente de tecnología con un horario en una empresa y un montón de stress fulminando mis sesos constantemente... Entonces un tipo (un psicólogo) el cual se sentaba una vez por semana en frente de mi cuando estábamos en su consultorio, tuvo la genial idea de decirme que yo debía tener un hobbie, alguna actividad distinta a mi trabajo en la cual invertir parte de mi tiempo... Allí comenzó esto de la fotografía y yo, allí comenzó este idilio extraño el cual terminó por convertirme en un ser aún más atípico de lo que ya era en aquel entonces...

The photo exists, it is there and it is a wonderful thing to do and to see. But the best thing about it is not only the photo. No, the best of it all is also the transformative capacity to "create" through the image, because (and this took me years to understand) while we are creating, we are also explaining ourselves as we are. And this is something valuable. In fact, it is perhaps one of the reasons why we are here on a plane constructed of material things, even though we surreptitiously know our more etheric and spiritual origins.

La foto existe, esta allí y es una cosa maravillosa de hacer y ver. Pero lo mejor de todo esto no es únicamente la foto. No, lo mejor de todo esto es también la capacidad transformadora de "crear" a través de la imagen, porque (y esto me costó años entenderlo) mientras vamos creando, también vamos explicándonos a nosotros mismos como somos. Y esto es algo valioso. De hecho, quizás sea una de las cosas por las cuales estamos aquí en un plano construido con cosas materiales, aún conociendo subrepticiamente nuestro origen más etéreo y espiritual.
