Hello dear monochromatic #Hive friends!... The Christmas and New Year festivities were accompanied by some new surprises in our town... As always, many people were merry and tried to spend their time from party to party and binge to binge. So that was something interesting to make some portraits in the streets of the village. It was also interesting to walk around the village in the early mornings of the new year, when calm seemed to return to the streets again.

¡Hola queridos amigos monocromáticos de #Hive!... Las festividades de navidad y año nuevo vinieron acompañadas de algunas novedades en nuestro pueblo... Como siempre, muchas personas se alegraron y procuraron pasar el tiempo de fiesta en fiesta y de borrachera en borrachera. Así que eso fue algo interesante para hacer algunos retratos en las calles del pueblo. También fue interesante recorrer el pueblo las mañana de los primeros días del año, cuando la calma pareció retornar a las calles nuevamente.

"Bolivíta"/_"Bolivíta"

Bolivita is a typical character in the town. He has always wandered the streets of the village and makes his living doing gardening and maintenance work in the houses of the neighbours. He is also an assiduous drinker and is often seen drinking on weekends. The recent festivities were no exception and Bolivíta gave free rein to his love of liquor. I took several photos of him that day when I found him asleep in the street and I specially selected this "close-up portrait" which I took practically sitting in the street in front of Bolivíta. This is something that usually seems funny to everyone here (including Bolivita, who enjoys it when I show her these pictures) but addictions are serious business and should not be taken lightly in my view. Sadly, in these small third world villages this is still an absolutely normal and everyday occurrence.

Bolivita es todo un personaje típico del pueblo. Desde siempre ha deambulado por las calles del pueblo y vive de hacer trabajos de jardinería y mantenimiento en las casas de los vecinos. También en un asiduo bebedor y es bastante frecuente verlo pasado de tragos durante los fines de semana. Las recientes fiestas no fueron la excepción y sirvieron para que Bolivíta diese rienda suelta a su afición por el licor. Hice varias fotos de él ese día cuando lo encontré dormido en la calle y seleccioné especialmente este "retrato cercano" el cual hice prácticamente sentado en la calle en frente de Bolivíta. Esto es algo que suele parecer gracioso para todos aquí (inclusive para Bolívita, quien disfruta cuando le enseño estas fotos) pero las adicciones son cosa seria y no deben ser tomadas a la ligera según mi punto de vista. Lamentablemente, en estos pueblos pequeños del tercer mundo, esto sigue siendo algo absolutamente normal y cotidiano.

"Chepis"/_"Chepis"

My friend Chepis is also a typical character in the village. We have known each other since we were both children and used to play in the streets of our neighbourhood. I stopped seeing him for a long time, I think he was out of the country for a while, as his parents were of foreign descent and his family is scattered in other places... I am 53 years old and it seems to me that my friend Chepis must be of a similar age. So, as you can see in this Christmas morning portrait, he looks like a rather old man, this may have something to do with his genetics, but I think it also has to do with his passion for staying up late and going from party to party!... "Everyone to his own taste" As my late father would say!

Mi amigo Chepis es también ya un personaje típico del pueblo. Nos conocemos desde que ambos eramos niños y acostumbrábamos a jugar en las calles de nuestro barrio. Dejé de verlo mucho tiempo, creo que el estuvo fuera del país un tiempo, pues sus padres eran de ascendencia extrajera y su familia está diseminada en otras partes... Yo tengo 53 años y me parece que mi amigo Chepis ha de tener una edad similar. Así que, tal como pueden observar en este retrato de la mañana de navidad, su aspecto es el de un hombre bastante mayor, esto puede que tenga que ver con su genética, pero me parece que también tiene que ver con su afición por trasnocharse y andar de fiesta en fiesta... ¡Cada quien con sus gustos! diría mi difunto padre.

"Floriano and the first joke of the year"/_{"Floriano y el primer chiste del año"}

Floriano is a strong and healthy 75 year old man. His parents were Italians who arrived during the post-war period and he is the most renowned car mechanic in our village. I met him going down a village street on the morning of the first day of January, he was cruising the streets in his car while wishing a happy new year to everyone he met on the streets. When he saw me he jokingly commented: "Have you seen the homemade liqueurs that were sold in the village during the holidays?... Their labels have crazy names like: "Wait for me on the floor", "Either I'll fall or I'll crouch", "Lay down there and Let's crawl"... Hahahahaha :)) I almost peed myself listening to that!.

Floriano es un hombretón fuerte y saludable de 75 años. Sus padres eran italianos llegados durante la post-guerra y él es el mecanico automotriz mas reconocido de nuestro pueblo. Lo encontré yendo por una calle del pueblo la mañana del primer día de Enero, él recorría las calles en su auto mientras deseaba feliz año nuevo a todos los que encontraba en las calles. Al verme me comentó en tono jocoso: ¿Has vito lo de los licores artesanales que se vendieron en el pueblo estos días de fiesta?... Sus etiquetas tienen nombres tan locos como: "Espérame en el suelo", "O me caigo o me agacho", "Échate ahí y Vamos a gatear"... Hahahaha :)) ¡Casi me orino escuchando eso!.

"El Polar"/_{"El Polar"}

"El Polar" is the umpteenth person I have seen riding this "strange thing with wheels" in the streets of my village. It seems that this vehicle passes from hand to hand very often. But the truth is that this time, and during a good part of the Christmas festivities, it was used by my friend who everyone calls "El Polar" (in allusion to a brand of beer) to have a good time in the streets of the town, having a bit too much to drink. :)

"El Polar" es la enésima persona a quien veo subido a esa "extraña cosa con ruedas" en las calles de mi pueblo. Tal parece que ese vehículo pasa de mano en mano con mucha frecuencia. Pero lo cierto es que esta vez, y durante buena parte de las festividades dicembrínas,sirvió para que mi amigo a el que todos llaman "El Polar" (en alusión a una marca de cerveza) estuviese divirtiéndose por las calles del pueblo bastante pasado de copas. :)

After the New Year holidays, the village mornings returned to their usual quiet and calm. I went out to take photos early in the morning and it was quite difficult to find scenes with people in the streets of the village. However, they are even more solitary moments than usual, so that has its charm. These last three photos of today's selection for the #monomad challenge, correspond to those excessively quiet mornings of the first days of January 2024.

Pasadas las fiestas del año nuevo, las mañanas del pueblo retornaron a su habitual silencio y calma. Salí a hacer fotos esos días temprano y me costó bastante encontrar escenas con personas en las calles del pueblo. Sin embargo son momentos aún más solitarios de lo acostumbrado, así que eso tiene su encanto. Estas tres ultimas fotos de esta selección de hoy para el reto #monomad, corresponden a esas mañanas excesivamente tranquilas de los primeros días de Enero del 2024.
