What is the first thing you look at when you find yourself in an unfamiliar place?

If it is an urban site, the first thing I see are the buildings, the constructions, are they beautiful, ugly, neither one nor the other?
Si es un sitio urbano, yo lo primero que veo son las edificaciones, las construcciones, ¿son bonitas, feas, ni lo uno ni lo otro?
Then the streets, the people, the atmosphere. And I am attentive to curiosities or anecdotal scenes, like this cultural house that had its roof full of old desks.
Luego las calles, la gente, el ambiente. Y estoy atenta a las curiosidades o escenas anecdóticas, como esta casa cultural que tenía su techo lleno de pupitres viejos.
Or some ruins of what was a church many years ago. For some they should not be touched because it was what was left standing after an earthquake, and for others a new temple should be built there.
O unas ruinas de lo que fue una iglesia hace muchos años. Para algunos no se deben tocar porque fue lo que quedó en pie luego de un sismo, y para otros se debe hacer un nuevo templo allí.
In places with minimal planning, like this popular neighborhood I show, where people have been designing almost everything on their own, there are many things that attract the eye. There is disorder, chaos, order, beauty, ugliness, in a single block or a few meters.
En lugares con mínima planificación, como este barrio popular que muestro, donde la gente ha ido diseñando por su cuenta casi todo, hay muchas cosas que atraen la mirada. Hay desorden, caos, orden, belleza, fealdad, en una sola cuadra o unos metros.
And in spaces with so many visual stimuli, in my opinion the impulse is important if we are there to photograph, we have to shoot without thinking too much, surely later when editing the shots, we will find out what motivated us to take them.
Y en espacios con tantos estímulos visuales, en mi opinión el impulso es importante si estamos allí para fotografiar, hay que disparar sin pensarlo demasiado, seguro después al editar las tomas, conseguiremos qué nos motivó a hacerlas.
This is all part of a personal experience. I am not a professional photographer, but as a social communicator I ventured into street and documentary photography when I was hired for a project that required it.
Todo esto es parte de una experiencia personal. No soy fotógrafa profesional, pero como comunicadora social incursioné en la fotografía de calle, documental, al ser contratada para un proyecto que la requería.
And I really enjoyed having had the opportunity to do this, to diversify my photographic gaze. So the message is: if we know we have the ability, we should not be afraid to take on new tasks, learning awaits us there. I hope you found these images and lines interesting.
Y disfruté mucho haber tenido la oportunidad de hacer esto, de diversificar mi mirada fotográfica. Por eso, el mensaje es: si sabemos que tenemos la capacidad, no debemos temer a asumir tareas nuevas, el aprendizaje nos espera allí.
