Like every year, the Calici nel Borgo Antico event returns punctually at the end of November. The initiative was created to guarantee local companies, especially wineries, to offer their product at a more convenient price and guarantee tasters some tastings of quality wines and food products.
It is in fact an important showcase especially for emerging companies because they can offer the product directly to customers, conversing with them and explaining the work behind it or the company's tradition. Dialogue with people is important because the trust and competence of entrepreneurs are essential for attracting the curiosity of customers. The product, even if of quality. it will never reach people's tables if there is no direct contact.
The peculiarity of the event is the tasting itinerary: there are several refreshment points, located in the entrance halls of the historic buildings, in the historic center of the city. An enchanting journey, between music, shows, guided tours and the Christmas spirit, represented by the magnificent lights projected on the facades of monuments, such as the city's cathedral, a sacred place where one finds the silence and solemnity of a sacred place.
In the alleys of the city the crowd is really impressive, long queues form at the entrances of the main doors, and the music is hidden by the chatter of the people, enthusiastic about the event and good-naturedly alternating with a few glasses of wine.
In the past, when I was a student, I worked in some editions of the event, my job was to serve wine in glasses and set up the stand from the early hours of the afternoon. A lot of effort but also a lot of fun in the company of friends. Many years have passed, yet tonight I remember well all the salient images of those evenings.

Come ogni anno, l'evento Calici nel Borgo Antico si ripresenta puntuale alla fine del mese di novembre, una manifestazione che oramai è diventata puntuale e che nel territorio lancia a tutti gli effetti le ormai prossime festività natalizie. L'iniziativa nasce per garantire alle aziende locali, in particolare quelle vinicole, di offrire il proprio prodotto ad un prezzo più economico e garantire ai degustatori alcuni assaggi tra vini e cibo di qualità.
E' di fatti una vetrina importante soprattutto per le aziende emergenti perchè possono offrire il prodotto direttamente ai clienti, parlando con loro e spiegando il lavoro che vi dietro oppure la tradizione dell'azienda. Il dialogo con la gente è importante perchè la fiducia e la competenza degli imprenditori sono fondamentali per attirare la curiosità della clientela. Il prodotto, anche se di qualità. non potrà mai arrivare sulla tavola della gente se non vi è il contatto diretto.
La particolarità della manifestazione è il percorso di degustazioni: ci sono diversi punti di ristoro, dislocati negli androni di palazzi storici, nel centro storico della città. Un percorso incantevole, tra musica, spettacoli, visite guidate e lo spirito natalizio, rappresentato dalle magnifiche luci proiettati sulle facciate dei monumenti, come la cattedrale della città, un luogo sacro al cui interno si ritrova il silenzio e la solennità di un luogo sacro.
Per le strette vie della città, la folla è davvero impressionante, lunghe code si formano agli ingressi dei portoni, e la musica è nascosta dal chiacchiericcio della gente, entusiasta per l'evento e bonariamente alternata da qualche bicchiere di vino.
In passato, quando ero uni studente, ho lavorato in alcune edizioni della manifestazione, il mio compito era servire il vino nei calici e sistemare lo stand sin dalle prime ore del pomeriggio. Tanta fatica ma anche tanto divertimento in compagnia degli amici. Sono trascorsi molti anni, eppure in questa serata ricordo bene tutte le immagini salienti di quelle serate.
