Mientras conversaba con mi sobrina, María Mercedes, recordé un viaje familiar que hicimos, en el año 2013, a la bella Isla de Margarita, Estado Nueva Esparta, República Bolivariana de Venezuela. Isla bañada por las aguas del mar caribe y el Océano Atlántico. Lugar de ensueño con múltiples destinos turísticos de belleza sinigual, Isla rica en historia, en arquitectura civil, militar y religiosa. Isla arraigada a su milenaria cultura, tradiciones y costumbres. Isla de gente buena y trabajadora, cuna de grandes hombres e importantes acontecimientos históricos que ayudaron a la Independencia de Venezuela. Nuestra amada Isla de las perlas o la perla del Caribe. La Isla de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, de la Virgen del Valle y del Santo Cristo del Buen Viaje.
While talking with my niece, María Mercedes, I remembered a family trip that we made, in 2013, to the beautiful Isla de Margarita, Nueva Esparta State, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Island bathed by the waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. A dream place with multiple tourist destinations of unparalleled beauty, an island rich in history, in civil, military and religious architecture. Island rooted in its ancient culture, traditions and customs. Island of good and hard-working people, cradle of great men and important historical events that helped the Independence of Venezuela. Our beloved Island of pearls or the pearl of the Caribbean. The Island of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Virgin of the Valley and the Holy Christ of Good Trip.

La Iglesia del Cristo del buen viaje, fue construida a finales del año 1748 y su nombre se debe a que allí reposa la imagen homónima. Cuando le mencioné a mi sobrina que estuve en la Bahía de Pampatar me contó la historia que los lugareños narran respecto al Santo Cristo. Resulta que en una oportunidad la imagen iba a ser trasladada a la Isla de Santo Domingo, cuando la montaron en la embarcación esta no pudo zarpar de la Bahía de Pampatar a causa del mal tiempo por lo que sus tripulantes se vieron obligados a dejarla allí. Cuentan que cada vez que intentaban trasladar la imagen el mal tiempo lo impedía. Antes de embarcar a la imagen el mar permanecía tranquilo y sereno y el cielo despejado pero una vez dispuestos a emprender el viaje, se desataba repentinamente una tormenta con rayos y truenos impidiendo la salida, se dice desde entonces que el cristo se quiso quedarse en su Iglesia de Pampatar. Con el tiempo se construyó la iglesia del Cristo del Buen Viaje.
The Church of Christ of Good Trip was built at the end of 1748 and its name is due to the fact that the homonymous image rests there. When I mentioned to my niece that I was in the Bay of Pampatar, she told me the story that the locals tell about Santo Cristo. It turns out that on one occasion the image was going to be transferred to the Island of Santo Domingo, when they mounted it on the boat, it could not set sail from the Bay of Pampatar because of bad weather, so its crew members were forced to leave it there. They say that every time they tried to transfer the image, bad weather prevented it. Before embarking on the image, the sea remained calm and serene and the sky clear but once ready to embark on the journey, a storm suddenly broke out with lightning and thunder preventing the exit, it is said since then that the Christ wanted to stay in his Church of Pampatar. Over time the church of Cristo del Buen Viaje was built.
