More Thrillers For Tonight

I Know What You Did Last Summer

Five friends accidentally cause a fatal car accident and agree to keep it a secret instead of facing the consequences. A year later, the past comes back to haunt them, and they’re forced to face a terrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer. A requel of the 1997 hit. Is it worth your attention?

🟢🟢🟢🟢

  • Most of the deaths are quite violent, which I liked for a slasher movie, and some are even a bit original.

  • You try to guess who the killer is, and you play along with that element throughout the film.

  • The chemistry among the main cast is pretty good and comes across on screen.

  • The performances are on an okay level—nobody really stands out, but nobody is terrible either.

  • The nostalgia factor is strong here too, and Hewitt’s line “nostalgia is overrated” in the movie is simply divine.

  • Nice and clever connection/transition with the old 1997 storyline.

  • The post-credit scene showing continuation—I liked it. (No spoilers).

🔴🔴🔴🔴

  • The humor in the movie didn’t work for me; instead, it threw me off 🤷‍♂️.

  • It didn’t have the suspense I was expecting, nor the tension or real sense of threat of the original.

  • The killer’s reveal was meh.

  • A twist revealed at the end will probably divide audiences. Bold, yes—but it didn’t win me over.

  • The script is not the film’s strong point: quite predictable and, except for a few scenes, without any real attempt to renew the franchise.

  • You feel that the legacy characters, Julie and Ray, don’t have much to add and were included for commercial purposes. Especially Jennifer Love Hewitt, who doesn’t really have much to do.

  • Not particularly scary—just filled with jump scares.

  • The third act, with the killer’s reveal, falls far short of expectations and feels somewhat over the top.

  • Conclusion: Although it’s a mediocre film, it’s still watchable and not boring. But maybe it’s better to wait and watch it at home.

The Ritual

Two priests, one with a shaken faith and the other facing his past, must put aside their differences to save a possessed woman through a series of difficult and dangerous exorcisms. Another exorcism film that adds nothing new? Clearly!

🟢🟢🟢🟢

  • Surprisingly, I liked the performance of the possessed woman. 🤷‍♂️

  • The fact that it’s based on true events is, at least initially, interesting (trying to find positives 😅).

  • I liked that it doesn’t go overboard with supernatural effects.

  • It tries to maintain a sense of dramatic realism.

  • The pacing is measured.

🔴🔴🔴🔴

  • Some effects are very clumsy.

  • No atmosphere whatsoever.

  • I didn’t think I’d say this, but Al Pacino is bad here, even unintentionally funny at times.

  • Same goes for Dan Stevens—also not good here, he feels unnecessary and wasted.

  • Fully predictable and packed with clichés (expected, of course).

  • Lacks any real cinematic feel, mainly due to the direction.

  • Boring and monotonous.

  • Barely scary at all.
