AI has definitely improved my academic performance | GPT-5, Claude Sonnet 4.5, Grok 4 - Which one should I choose?

We cannot ignore the fact that AI is increasingly present in our lives, to the extent that we are undergoing a process of adaptation that may be difficult for some people to digest, while for others it is a solution to all problems.

In the academic sphere, resorting to AI tools could be counterproductive if we fail to develop our faculties, which are considered to be reason and the ability to delve deeply into a problematic situation, something we will definitely encounter at some point in our lives. Even so, AI is a very helpful tool when it comes to advancing in our studies, if we consider it as a map of knowledge that we can consult.

There is probably not a day that goes by when I don't use AI. Consultations have become a regular occurrence, so today I can say that I feel more capable and much smarter. What I have achieved now is to stimulate my thinking, because I have been nourished by more information, which I have been able to process. That processing has gradually enabled me to understand things much more quickly, or at least that is what I am noticing, especially in the field of programming (especially at a low level).

I have consulted different AI models and noticed that their approaches differ greatly in the way they communicate information to the user. ChatGPT with its GPT-5 model has satisfied me greatly, because it responds in a comprehensive and simple way, even with emoticons and good manners. This may seem silly, but it helps a lot in building a student-teacher relationship, without the fear that the teacher will question what you have asked. In real life, if you ask a teacher a question, they may ask you a series of uncomfortable questions, either because of the difficulty or to gauge your level of learning; in many cases, students avoid asking questions so as not to highlight their insecurities.

Another thing I've noticed is that GPT-5 doesn't beat around the bush. It tries to explain something complex in detail without overwhelming you. It doesn't overlook details like Claude does, which explains a complex topic very superficially and then leaves you to figure it out for yourself or ask again about what was overlooked.

Prompt:
"Hello, I would like to learn how to pass generic functions to a function in C"

As you can see, GPT-5 manages to offer more information and even a practical example that we can try out and use to learn for ourselves if we can code. While it's true that Claude works very well, it wouldn't suit my tastes.

Another model that is surprising me is Grok 4. Not only does it provide information that could be very valuable in our studies, but it also gives you the most accurate answer to what you need to know to get by. It is no coincidence that answers of this caliber are so accurate and abundant, as it is the work of perfecting an AI linked to the social aspect, so its answers will be very refined.

Prompt:
"Hello, I would like to learn how to pass generic functions to a function in C"

This is how Grok responds to the same prompt. Now I need to decide which one to go with if I consider these solutions. To further complicate my doubts, we now also have an alternative way to satisfy our curiosity, as they have made AI mode globally available in the Google browser. In this case, the information comes from the entire internet; that is, it comes from the indexing of information collected over time, which is analyzed and processed by the Gemini model.

Prompt:
"How to pass generic functions to a function in C"

In this case, I ask directly what my concern is. You might think you're talking to Gemini, and in a sense you are, but it has a much more specific analysis of the things you're looking for, which you'll notice when you compare it to Gemini.

In my studies, I have also found it useful to search with Google Lens from a PDF, making it interpret a specific problem and guide you on how to solve it. Very useful when you don't know how to approach an exercise or problem. This new AI mode allows us to keep up to date with the world around us, but also to gradually delve deeper into all kinds of situations we may have to deal with.

As you can see, the sources are reliable and are ones we have used before. Now we finally have access to large amounts of information in a matter of seconds. It may take away some of our research skills, but I think that's something we can put off for now. Maybe when the day comes to write a thesis? Or will it be too late?
