Tarek Pukat?

Tarek Pukat [Tarek in Acehnese which means Pull] or Pull Pukat is one of the fishing traditions carried out by fishing communities in Aceh, the name is Tarek Pukat, which is a fishing activity carried out by a group of people around the coast or adult men using a trawler. tools/objects such as large and long nets for catching fish.

For those of you who are curious, you can find this Tarek Pukat activity in various coastal areas in Aceh, generally. Usually the fishing community performs Tarek Pukat every afternoon until sunset. To enter this beach area, on average, everything is free or does not cost anything. On the beach or about a few meters from the beach, there are also several drinking shops and street vendors selling various kinds of drinks and snacks lined up along the shoreline.

How to Trawl?

If you're curious about how, let's see for a moment. In the Tarek Pukat activity, the trawl nets were initially spread not far from the shore by boat. And don't forget one end of the trawler is tethered to the beach. After the net was coiled in the middle, the fishing boat immediately returned to the beach and the two ends of the main rope of the trawl were pulled by the fishermen.

When pulling the trawl, fishermen usually stand in a row (alternating), the net is then pulled slowly and simultaneously so that the load becomes lighter because it is already the same. The fish caught in the net will be dragged to the beach. The community can buy the caught fish directly when the trawl is finished or can be found at the nearest markets, generally near the beach there are also fish shelters.

So the Tarek Pukat Tradition itself describes the very strong spirit of gotong royong in the Aceh area. Because this tradition has been carried out for a long time, it has been passed down from generation to generation by the coastal communities of Aceh.
