Mountains and seas. To be honest, that is like the ultimate combination of landscapes that is there. Opal blue seas with some mountains to split the views, there is hardly anything more beautiful than that.
But on the other hand, a snowy mountain has something mystical about it as well. Sure, when covered in clouds there is this kind of spooky vibe there. But when the sun is out, that is also when the true power of the mountains is there.
The farsights, seeing something in every corner. And what better way to explore the mountains than doing it on your skis. Now I get what you are thinking, ‘prepared slopes are not really that special Karin, we don’t call that exploring’.
Fair point, in the backcountry they will totally laugh about this. But when coming from a country where the altitude difference throughout the whole country is like max 30 metres or so, the mountains bring something special.
And also to be a bit humble to as well. The weather can change literally in any given second and those clouds can be stuck between the mountains to divert your plans seriously. It is something to be aware of and to not take lightly. There are enough stories of people getting lost in the mountains, or ditching into some kind of ravine.
Ofcourse, it doesn’t help when your mountain town is overrun by drunk Dutchies who have no idea how to deal with this, but pretend that they do. When I was living in Switzerland, I noticed that the people who live in the mountains have a lot more respect and reserved fear even for what the mountains can do.
But still..something always draws us back to them. I don’t know what, but this just is…
