Esta es mi participación vez en este encuentro de @talentos invita a escribir sobre "Stop", con un tema que tiene mucha tela que contar, si escribí contar, porque cada quien corta esa tela en su mejor manera de contar lo que piensa de sobre "Stop".

El alto que me enseñó a escucharme
No corras, ve despacio, que donde tienes que ir es a ti solo. Eso me lo dijo mi abuelo una vez hace muchos años, estaba yo muy chamo. De hecho, yo pensaba que era una frase suya, y no es así. Hace tiempo investigué y resulta que es de un escritor que se llama Juan Ramón Jiménez. Al igual, mi abuelo la hizo suya, ahora yo también la hago mía. Nota: no es la primera vez que hago la cita de esta frase que me dijo mi abuelo.
Hay días en que todo parece moverse muy, pero muy rápido, el reloj o mejor dicha la hora la veo en el celular, la gente caminando, cada quien a sus trabajos, de repente uno se mete en esa dinámica sin darse cuenta, como si correr fuera obligatorio. Pero llega un momento en que el cuerpo no responde igual, la mente se llena de cansancio, y mi alma, como dicen los maracuchos, sí, el alma se queda esperando que alguien la escuche, y siempre es, mi esposa.
No fue por una crisis, ni mucho menos por un drama, fue un día cualquiera, pero distinto, me detuve, tampoco fue por cansancio, sino por necesidad. Me di cuenta de que estaba haciendo muchas cosas, pero sin sentirlas, que estaba cumpliendo, pero no viviendo, me di cuenta de que yo no soy así.
En ese “stop” entendí que no todo lo que brilla es avance, o es oro, como dice el refrán. Que a veces parar es lo único que te permite ver con claridad, me escuché y también me escuchó la persona más indicada, y me pregunté cosas que tenía tiempo sin responder. ¿Qué quiero? ¿Qué me hace bien? ¿Qué estoy ignorando?
Lamentablemente, no encontré todas las respuestas, pero sí el valor de hacerme las preguntas. Y eso ya es un comienzo para entender que hacer un stop es necesario para avanzar, y eso que decía mi abuelo de no correr e ir despacio aplica para cualquiera de las situaciones que estés viviendo, en ese ir despacio hacia ti mismo es bueno hacer ese stop que estoy mencionando.
Ahora sigo en mi movimiento, ese movimiento que me caracteriza, pero de una manera distinta. Porque sé dónde y cuándo detenerme. No corro por correr, no lleno el día por miedo al vacío, he aprendido que detenerse, no es perder tiempo, es ganarlo. Porque si no te escuchas, ¿cómo sabes a dónde vas?
Así que en medio del stop me detengo y pienso y sigo.

The pause that taught me to listen to myself
“Don’t rush, go slowly, because where you need to go is to yourself.” My grandfather told me that once, many years ago, when I was just a kid. I actually thought it was his own phrase, but it’s not. Some time ago I looked it up and found out it’s from a writer named Juan Ramón Jiménez. Still, my grandfather made it his own, and now I do too. Note: this isn’t the first time I’ve quoted that phrase he told me.
There are days when everything seems to move very, very fast—the clock, or rather the time, I check it on my phone; people walking, each heading to their jobs. Suddenly you get caught up in that rhythm without realizing it, as if rushing were mandatory. But then comes a moment when your body doesn’t respond the same, your mind fills with fatigue, and my soul—like the maracuchos say—yes, the soul waits for someone to listen to it. And that someone is always my wife.
It wasn’t because of a crisis, much less a drama. It was just an ordinary day, but different. I stopped. Not because I was tired, but because I needed to. I realized I was doing a lot of things, but not feeling them. I was fulfilling tasks, but not living. And I realized that’s not who I am.
In that “stop,” I understood that not everything that shines is progress—or gold, as the saying goes. Sometimes stopping is the only way to see clearly. I listened to myself, and the person who knows me best listened to me too. I asked myself questions I hadn’t answered in a long time. What do I want? What’s good for me? What am I ignoring?
Unfortunately, I didn’t find all the answers, but I did find the courage to ask the questions. And that’s already a start to understanding that making a stop is necessary to move forward. What my grandfather said about not rushing and going slowly applies to any situation you’re living through. And in that slow walk toward yourself, it’s good to make the stop I’m talking about.
Now I continue in my movement—the movement that defines me—but in a different way. Because I know where and when to stop. I don’t rush just to rush. I don’t fill the day out of fear of emptiness. I’ve learned that stopping isn’t wasting time—it’s gaining it. Because if you don’t listen to yourself, how do you know where you’re going?
So in the middle of the stop, I pause, I think, and I keep going.
