Hi there, thank you for checking in on my trainingsblog towards the Spijkenisse Spark Marathon in November - where I aim to break my personal record of 3:20:16!
Today was a very interesting run! Started with a big smile and ended with a dressing grown a few blankets, some symptoms of hypothermia and a big smile! The elements made my run a real challenge today - while I did not hit all the interval times I had a serious workout and lots of fun!

My goal for today was a mid 30 progressive long run. Starting with a 2 km warmup and i creasing the pase every interval blok (start at 4:55, 4:40, 4:35 and finally 4:20). I did not manage the last 4km block at 4:20 - despite having a very stable heartrate during the run, the elements maxe the run so much more challenging that my legs were simply done haha

Starting my day at 6:00 eating a bowl of overnight oatmeal with some frozen red fruits and a coffee. Fully aware that there was a weather warning with regards to a storm. I decided to go for a single layer of clothing as I expected to warm up pretty fast - with a longer distance I prefer not to be too warmly dressed.
The weather warning did not disappoint today, I was met with heavy gusts of wind, heavy rain and hail showers. Around 14km in I checked 3 times if I infact was wearing any clothing at all… the water and wind made my shirt feel like a waterly layer of second skin. So what can you do? I decided to just smile and accept the challenge!
I was happy that I picked a ziplock bag to protect my phone from the water (prep is everything!)
My interval paces were out my reach due to the strong headwind, I decided to make the most of it and just too have some fun. The wind did took a larger toll of my legs. Getting some pace was hard. When I finished my 34km my legs were done. I did had a 3km cooldown scheduled but I was not even going to meet that recovery pace anymore. I stopped the run with 34 km of quality work!
The last few kilometers back to my place I went walking - which ended as todays mistake. It was still raining heavily and my temperature dropped fast. When I got back home 15 min later I was trembling like crazy with extremely cold fingertips and lips. Been here before and I made it back home soI felt no need to panic. Warming up slowly and looking back at a very cool adventure today!
Happy running!

Wow! That is dedication to brave the elements to keep that training going strong. Great job on the run today despite the high winds and driving rain. You are right, that ziplock bag saved your phone from taking a bath for sure!
Thank you!
