Hard work pays off! VO2max interval workout

Hi there! Thanks for checking in on my running blog towards the Spijkenisse Spark Marathon in November!

Today I had an intense workout I love to share. While the workout resembled last weeks vo2max intervals there was one key element that made it much more difficult!
Where last week the recovery between intervals was 1 km at 5:30 - 6:00 / km, today these recovery blocks were 3 min at 5:00 (which means you only had 52% of the time to get yourself together before the next interval started!)

I started a little too strong, which got me questioning myself in the first short recovery block! Luckely I had set auto-lap on 1km so rather than still having 2 whole 5km blocks in front of me - I could focus on every single next kilometer! Which felt much more achievable.

Nevertheless, that little voice that told me I would not make it was there. There were times I would let that voice win and look for a way out - but not today! I decided not only to push through but also to shut that voice up by giving some power that I still had to speed up the last few 100’s meters!

Today it was raining a bit during the run, which provided some nice cooling during the workout (and ensured there were not to many cyclist around).

The remainder of today and tomorrow my focus will be on recovery so that I can reschedule My Sunday’s long run to this Thursday (due to family plans) without risking overtraining!

Happy running!

I'm still always impressed by how much you run and your pace, it's always impressive. Thanks for sharing here with us.🙏🏻

Great job keeping that little voice at bay telling you that you weren't going to make it. Not easy to always master and overcome it! Fantastic training you put in today, and it's going to pay off when you get to the actual event. I hope you had enough time to enjoy that scenery as you ran by, absolutely beautiful!

Running (or walking in my case) in the rain is so much fun! 🌧 Whenever it rains here, my son immediately asks if we can go outside for a walk. It makes for great memories.

Good job on your consistent training!
