Hace más de un año que mi madre planto en su jardín una planta de lirio, pero jamás la habíamos visto florecer, siempre con sus hojas verdes que parecían monte. Mi madre, cada vez que limpiaba el césped, me recordaba que cuidado le cortaba su Lirio.

Pertenecen a plantas del género Lilium, de la familia de las Liliáceas.
Son originarias de regiones templadas del hemisferio norte (Europa y Asia), pero se dan perfectamente en nuestro clima tropical.

Son alrededor de 110 especies, todas plantas caducas y bulbosas.
Las grandes flores, que exhalan una fuerte fragancia, sobre todo de noche, tienen seis pétalos que pueden ser de color blanco, amarillo, anaranjado, rosado y púrpura, frecuentemente coloreados y con manchas. Poseen 6 estambres.
Dan a la flor la apariencia de una trompeta, turbante o cáliz. Florece en primavera y verano.

The large flowers, which exhale a strong fragrance, especially at night, have six petals that can be white, yellow, orange, pink and purple, often colored and spotted. They have 6 stamens.
