Philately has always been one of my passions or hobbies that I have cultivated since I was very young (and now that I am not so young I have returned with the enthusiasm of those years).
In the previous article I referred to the benefits of this type of collecting, so useful as an auxiliary didactic element of our history, of our uses and customs and why not of those initiatives that tend to the protection of the environment.
Today I will deal with the role that the issue of postage stamps, that is to say, philately, has in the thematic referred to the protection of birds.
In some cases these issues are sponsored by entities and/or associations dedicated to their protection, as is the case of this stamp issued in Argentina on the occasion of the Centenary of the Asociación Aves Argentinas.
Or the series Colombian Birds in Danger of Extinction from 2010.
La filatelia ha sido siempre una de mis pasiones o hobbies que cultivo desde muy joven (y ahora que no lo soy tanto he vuelvo con el entusiasmo de aquellos a4os).
En el artículo anterior me refería a las bondades de este tipo de coleccionismo tan útil como un elemento didáctico auxiliar de nuestra historia, de nuestros usos y costumbres y por que no de aquellas inniciativas que tienden a la proteccion del medio ambiente.
Hoy me ocuparé del rol que tiene la emisión de sellos postales, es decir la filatelia, en la temática referida a la protección de las aves.
En algunos casos estas emisiones está patrocinadas por entes y/o asociaciones que de dedican a su protegen como es el caso de este sello emitido en Argentina con motivo de cumplirse el Centenario de la Asociación Aves Argentinas.
O la serie Aves colombianas en Peligro de Extinción del año 2010.
There are many stamps of birds that are classified by their rarity, by their errors, by their limited issuance and other extraordinary factors.
I will refer to some of them at the end of this article, but for the moment I will show you some stamps from my collection dedicated to wildlife and in this case specifically to birds.
Those that follow are a series of stamps dedicated to the Raptors from Mongolia and a beautiful sheet block that comes from Sierra Lione in Africa from a correspondent who knew how to send me through the epistolary exchange numerous stamps from Asia and Africa, as in this case. In this last case the stamp promotes the protection of a certain type of sea ducks that live in that African region, while the previous one referred to the most common birds of prey in Mongolia.
Hay muchos sellos de aves que se clasifican por su rarezas, por sus errores, por su limitada emisión y otros factores extraordinarios.
En este me referera algunos de ellos al final de este artículo, por por el momento les mostrará algunos sellos de mi colección dedicada a la fauna y en este caso específicamente a las aves.
Los que siguen son una serie de sellos dedicados a los Rapaces provenientes de Mongolia y a una hermosa hoja block que viene de Sierra Lione en Africa de un corresponsal que me sabia mandar a través del intercambio epistolar numerosos sellos de Asia y Africa, como en este caso. En este último caso el sello promueve la protección de un determinado tipo de Patos Marinos que habitan en esa región africana, mientras que el anterior se refería a los rapaces más comunes en Mongolia.
As you can see by some details these last ones are photos taken from my albums, some stamps are already a good number of years old. They always belong to the category of "mint" postage stamps, that is to say new, without postage and in perfect condition.

In the second case we return to the protection of certain marine species in this Hoka Block issued in Argentina and dedicated to the austral birds.
There are several such blocksheets, some dedicated to the fauna and flora of Antarctica and others, on the other hand, dedicated to the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Antarctic Treaty. They usually group birds within other types of specimens of Antarctic fauna.
Como pueden ver por algunos detalles estas últimas son fotos sacadas de mis álbumes, algunas sellos tienen ya un buen número de años. Pertenecen siempre a la categoría de sellos postales "mint", es decir nuevos, sin franqueo y en perfecto estado.
La novedad y también su valor, en los sellos que siguen están dados también por ser los últimos sellos de aves emitidos en Rusia antes de la perestroika, es decir de la desmembración de la URSS como tal y al surgimiento de nuevos estados cada uno de los cuáles comenzó a emitir su propia moneda y sus propios sellos postales.
En el segundo caso volvemos a la protección de determinadas especies marinas en esta Hoka Block emitida en Argentina y dedicada a las aves australes.
Hay varias hojas blocks de este tipo, algunas dedicadas a la fauna y flora de la Antártida y otras, en cambio, dedicadas a la celebración del 75° Aniversario del Tratado Antártico. Normalmente agrupan a las aves dentro de otros tipos de ejemplates de la fauna antártica.

Es considerada el ave voladora más grande del mundo y en la cultura incaica uno de los mayores símbolos del poder y la libertad.
Sin embargo, como sucede con otras especies, simbolos de la naturaleza, su supervivencia está amenazada. Son numerosas las campañas tendientes a su protección y la filatelia no podía estar ausente

Curiosities and rarities. / Curiosidades y rarezas.
The curiosities and rarities in a postage stamp determine that its value is exceptionally high, in certain occasions.
This is the case of the Inverted Swan, a 4 pence blue postage stamp issued by the Western Australia Post Office in 1855, one of the first typographical errors in the world. Exceptionally valuable for its rarity and not for its graphic beauty. The stamp shows the symbol of the colony, the black swan, an emblem that illustrated Australian stamps until 1902.
Or sometimes it can also be errors made in the scientific names of bird species, as, for example, the so-called Fragata magnificens instead of the correct name Fregata magnificens on the stamp issued by Ecuador in 1986.
Las curiosidades y las rarezas en un sello postal determinan que su valor sea excepcionalmente alto, en determinadas ocasiones.
Es el caso del Cisne Invertido un sello postal de color azul, de 4 peniques emitido por la oficina de correos de Australia Occidental en el año 1855, uno de los primeros errores tipográficos del mundo. Excepionalmente valioso por su rareza y no por su belleza gráfica. El sello muestra el símbolo de la colonia, el cisne negro un emblema que ilustró los sellos australianos hasta el año 1902
O a veces puede tratarse también de errores cometidos en los nombres científicos de las especies de aves, como, por ejemplo, la llamada Fragata magnificens en lugar del nombre correcto Fregata magnificens en el sello emitido por Ecuador en el año 1986.
