Greetings guys, have a happy day, today we start another great Disney classic, this time I chose to recreate Mulan's characters, and we started by making the design of the main character. In ancient China, the emperor has ordered all the men of the empire to join the army to face the forces of the Huns who want to conquer that territory. Fa Mulan a young girl joins the army instead of her father disguised as a boy to fight against the Huns because she cares about her father. After this brief introduction, come with me to observe the step by step of how I make this design. Without further ado, let's get started.
Saludos chicos, tengan todos un feliz día, hoy damos inicio a otro gran clásico de Disney, esta vez elegí recrear a los personajes de Mulan, y comenzamos realizando el diseño de la protagonista. En la antigua China el emperador ha dado la orden a todos los varones del imperio a unirse a las filas del ejército para hacerle frente a las fuerza de los Hunos que quieren conquistar ese territorio. Fa Mulan una joven chica se alista en el ejército en lugar de su padre disfrazada de chico para la lucha contra los Hunos, ya que se preocupa de su padre. Tras esta breve introducción acompáñenme a observar el paso a paso de como realice este diseño. Sin más que decir empecemos.

Sketch / Boceto
I start by making the guide lines, something quick and simple, the idea in this step is to determine the proportions of Fa Mulan's character, her posture and some other details.
Empiezo haciendo las líneas guías, algo rápido y sencillo, la idea en este paso es determinar las proporciones del personaje de Fa Mulan su postura y algún que otro detalle.
Outlined / Delineado
In this step I will refine the lines of the drawing, in the layer of the sketch under the opacity to serve as a guide, I divide the drawing by sections, I separate the body, the clothing, the hair and the sword. For this design since the character is in front I used the symmetry tool to draw the face, part of the costume and the sword.
En este paso voy a refinar las líneas del dibujo, en la capa del boceto bajo la opacidad para que me sirva como guía, divido el dibujo por secciones, separo el cuerpo, la vestimenta, el cabello y la espada. Para este diseño ya que el personaje esta de frente use la herramienta de simetría para dibujar el rostro, parte del traje y la espada.
Colour / Color
To facilitate the application of color, I divide the drawing into sections using different layers for each section, which are, skin, clothing, hair and sword. In this step I use the marker brush for this purpose. To complement the coloring, I airbrush some blush on Fa Mulan's cheeks.
Para facilitar la aplicación del color, divido el dibujo en secciones usando capas diferentes para cada sección, las cuales son, piel, vestimenta, cabello y espada. En este paso uso el pincel rotulador para tal fin. Para complementar el coloreado, coloco con el aerógrafo algo de rubor en las mejillas de Fa Mulan.
Shadows / Sombras
I proceed to take the color of the area where I am going to darken, under its brightness, I increase a little the saturation and with the help of the airbrush I apply these shades. In this step I take advantage of placing the metallic textures to the sword.
Procedo a tomar el color de la zona donde voy a oscurecer, bajo su brillo, aumento un poco la saturación y con ayuda del pincel aerógrafo aplico dichas sombras. En este paso aprovecho a colocar las texturas metálicas a la espada.
Lights / Luces
We used the same technique of shading, but this time increasing the brightness and lowering a little saturation of the color, I apply each brightness by sections using the airbrush, so I avoid mixing the colors with each other, a little on the hair, face, clothing and I refine certain areas using the blur brush to create a smooth gradient. I also apply a brighter color to the outline to further enhance the drawing. And for the sword gem, I used a galaxy effect to give it that characteristic touch.
Usamos la misma técnica del sombreado, pero esta vez aumentando el brillo y bajando un poco saturación del color, aplico cada brillo por secciones usando el pincel aerógrafo, así evito mezclar los colores uno con otros, un poco en el cabello, rostro, vestimenta y afino ciertas zonas usando el pincel difumino para crear un suave degradado. También aplico un color más brillante al delineado para resaltar aún más el dibujo. Y para la gema de la espada use un efecto galaxia para darle ese toque característico.
Background / Fondo
For the background recreate a mountainous scene, first apply a red base, then in the next layer make a transition from dark red to a lighter one, in the other layer with the airbrush draw the sun and on top of it design some mountains and clouds.
Para el fondo recree un escenario montañoso, primero aplique una base de color rojo, luego en la siguiente capa realice una transición entre tonalidades de rojo oscuro a uno más claro, en la otra capa con el pincel aerógrafo dibuje el sol y encima de todas diseñe algunas montañas y nubes.
Details / Detalles
We completed our drawing by placing some details, created various light effects, placed a slight glow around Fa Mulan, then drew the reflection of the sun on the side of her and finally applied a flash to the gem of the sword.
Completamos nuestro dibujo colocando algunos detalles, creamos varios efectos de luz, colocamos un leve resplandor alrededor de Fa Mulan, luego dibujamos el reflejo del sol al costado de ella y finalmente aplicamos un destello en la gema de la espada.
Materials / Materiales
The tools I used for the drawing were the following:
- Android tablet.
- Capacitive pen (Stylus).
- Ibis Paint X program.
- Brushes: Pencil, Airbrush, Fuzzy, Marker.
Las herramientas que use para el dibujo fueron las siguientes:
- Tableta Android.
- Lápiz Capacitivo (Stylus).
- Programa Ibis Paint X.
- Pinceles: Lapiz, Aerografo, Difumino, Rotulador.
