Quiero contarles mi primera experiencia donando sangre y en este caso para una causa muy personal y dolorosa. Hace un poco mas de un mes, mi prima - hermana - comadre - vecina y amiga Maryfé presento un sangrado un poco fuera de lo normal lo que hizo que fuera al medico, en su cita detectaron un coagulo de sangre en el cuello de su útero que ameritó una biopsia.
I want to tell you about my first experience donating blood and in this case for a very personal and painful cause. A little over a month ago, my cousin - sister - comadre - neighbor and friend Maryfé had bleeding a little out of the ordinary, which made her go to the doctor, at her appointment they detected a blood clot in her cervix that warranted a biopsy.

Y el resultado de esa biopsia no fue nada de lo que esperamos, esa pequeña bolsita de sangre se convirtió en algo cada vez mas grande y actualmente es una paciente oncológica de 32 años con un Cáncer de Cuello Uterino grado III. Esta foto la tome mientras me tomaban sangre para una transfusión que necesitaba urgentemente ya que su hemoglobina se desplomó a raíz de su severo sangrado y no estaba nada bien. Su tratamiento comienza con quimioterapias pero en su estado aun no se puede comenzar con el tratamiento.
And the result of that biopsy was nothing of what we expected, that little bag of blood became something bigger and bigger and is currently a 32-year-old oncology patient with cancer of Uterine Cervix grade III. I took this photo while they were taking blood for an urgently needed transfusion as his hemoglobin plummeted from his severe bleeding and he was not well at all. His treatment begins with chemotherapies, but in his condition, treatment cannot be started yet.
Se necesitaban 8 donantes de sangre de un momento a otro y ahí estuvimos parte de mi familia y yo, llegamos al centro de salud publico a las 6 am y nos tomaron una pequeña muestra de sangre para despistar cualquier anormalidad y saber si estamos aptos para donar, por fortuna todos superamos la prueba. Saben cuanto costaba este tratamiento en una clínica privada? Pues antes de venir al centro de salud pedimos un presupuesto en una pequeña clínica de la Isla y cada bolsa de sangre tiene un valor de 300$ (ella necesita 2), y por realizar la transfusión 280$, ademas de otros medicamentos que hacían que el presupuesto rondara los 1.000$. Una suma bastante alta considerando la situación en la que vivimos en Venezuela y por mucho rato me entristecí pensar que otras personas no tienen acceso a la salud y otras tantas que mueren por esta enfermedad sin oportunidad de recibir un tratamiento.

Do you know how much this treatment cost in a private clinic? Well, before coming to the health center, we asked for a budget in a small clinic on the island and each bag of blood has a value of $ 300 (she needs 2), and for the transfusion, $ 280, in addition to other medications that made the budget will be around $ 1,000. A fairly high sum considering the situation in which we live in Venezuela and for a long time I was saddened to think that other people do not have access to health and many others who die from this disease without the opportunity to receive treatment.
Después de casi 4 horas por fin pudimos terminar e iniciar con su transfusión la cual necesita urgente ya que esta muy débil y llevaría mucho tiempo recuperarse de esto, además su tipo de cáncer es muy agresivo y cada vez se expande mas y mas. Su quimioterapia no puede esperar, la necesita ya. Con la transfusión de sangre ella podrá recuperarse rápido y la semana que viene podrá iniciar con la primera de 6 sesiones que le colocaran cada 21 días. Hemos contado con mucha ayuda y la principal es la dotación de los medicamentos y el tratamiento que a través de su oncólogo y el Hospital pudo conseguir, aun así los gastos para la primera sesión rondan los 300$ ya que hay muchos insumos que comprar y la consulta para cada sesión tiene un valor de 150$.

With the blood transfusion she will be able to recover quickly and next week she will be able to start with the first of 6 sessions that will be placed every 21 days. We have had a lot of help and the main one is the provision of medicines and treatment that through his oncologist and the Hospital he was able to get, even so the expenses for the first session are around $ 300 since there are many supplies to buy and the consultation for each session has a value of $ 150.
Ella es Maryfe, mi mejor amiga, prima y hermana, ustedes la ven enferma? Porque yo la veo y aun no creo que su estado sea tan critico y que necesite tratarse tan urgente. Aquí está ella esperando que todos donáramos sangre para después le comenzaran la transfusión, yo le enviaba la primera foto y ella me enviaba esta, ella en una habitación y yo en otra. Esta enfermedad ha sacudido nuestras vidas, nos ha unido pero también nos ha hecho reflexionar tanto y sobre muchas cosas. Lamentablemente ella ya no podrá tener hijos después de culminar su tratamiento y llorando me decía hace algunos días que se arrepentía de esperar tanto para tenerlos, de creer que necesitaba una casa perfecta para formar una familia y enfocarse en esas cosas, cosas que en su mayoría ahora debe vender para pagar su tratamiento. Es muy irónica la vida, también muy dura y directa. Maryfe para mi es un ejemplo de mujer y cada día me demuestra mas el valor que tiene.

This disease has shaken our lives, it has united us but it has also made us reflect so much and about many things. Unfortunately she will no longer be able to have children after finishing her treatment and crying she told me a few days ago that she regretted waiting so long to have them, believing that she needed a perfect home to start a family and focus on those things, things that mostly now he must sell to pay for his treatment. Life is very ironic, also very hard and direct. Maryfe for me is an example of a woman and every day she shows me more the value she has.
Con este post quiero desahogar un poco mi dolor, también quiero concientizar a los Hivers que me leen ya que nuestra salud siempre debe ser nuestra prioridad, y a todas esas mujeres jóvenes o adultas, sanas o no, les digo que por favor vayan al medico y no olviden de hacerse sus chequeos anuales. Estén atentas a las aletas que da su cuerpo, y por favor, ayuden a aquellas personas que sufren esta u otra enfermedad porque se que Dios les recompensara enormemente.

Me parece muy noble lo que hiciste. Donar sangre es una decisión que habla de la humanidad de muchísimas personas, le deseo lo mejor a tu amiga y espero que pueda salir de esto. También tuve una tía que sufrió de cáncer, lo único que recuerdo es que mi familia estuvo sacrificando muchísimo para apoyarla, pero no recuerdo mucho más allá ya que solo era un niño en ese entonces.
