Desde que descubrí Goodreads (me uní en el 2015), leer se me ha facilitado muchísimo, en especial, por lo olvidadiza que soy a la hora de recordar libros que he leído y que quiero leer. Te contaré en base a mi experiencia, cómo funciona ésta herramienta.
Since I discovered Goodreads (I joined in 2015), reading has become a lot easier for me, especially because of how forgetful I am when it comes to remembering books I have read and want to read. I will tell you based on my experience, how this tool works.
¿Qué es Goodreads?
Se trata de una página web para catalogar libros, ¿cómo así?, pues te permite organizar los libros en: leídos, por leer, favoritos y la que desees crear. Además de ello, te brinda recomendaciones de libros, por géneros y también por listas, que cambian a lo largo del año, algunas son: Los favoritos del Mes, Los más leídos este año, e incluso, la página realiza un concurso anualmente para que los usuarios voten su libro favorito, dentro de una selección de participantes, dando lugar a la lista de recomendación mas importante “Los Mejores del Año”.
It is a web page for cataloging books, how so? It allows you to organize the books in read, to read, favorites, and the one you want to create. Also, it gives you book recommendations, by genre and also by lists, which change throughout the year, some are The favorites of the Month, The most read this year, and the page even holds a contest annually so that users vote their favorite book, within a selection of participants, leading to the most important recommendation list "The Best of the Year."
A pesar de que se comporta como una página web, yo también diría que es una red social, ya que te permite hacer amistades (seguir usuarios), grupos de chat (suelen tratarse de grupos de lectura), al igual que te permite dar “like” y comentar publicaciones de tus amigos.
Although it behaves like a web page, I would also say that it is a social network since it allows you to make friends (follow users), chat groups (they are usually reading groups), as well as allow you to give " like ”and comment on your friends' posts.
¿Cómo empezar?
Lo primero que deberás hacer, es crear un usuario; el registro es muy sencillo, para ingresar sólo requieres un correo electrónico y una contraseña (existe también la opción de ingresar con Facebook, Twitter); luego, es recomendable editar datos básicos de tu perfil (nombre, foto), sin embargo, lo primordial para mí, es que selecciones tus géneros favoritos para leer, ¿por qué?, ya que así Goodreads podrá mostrarte muchas recomendaciones basadas en aquello que te interesa

En lo personal, agradezco de ésta página sus recomendaciones, porque como lectora a veces me encuentro cansada de la monotonía en los géneros que habitúo, así que al ingresar en Goodreads lo primero que hago es ir a Recomendaciones y allí al darle click a la portada de un libro puedo ver su Sinopsis, Valoración (en estrellas de 1 a 5) que otros usuarios le han otorgado, e incluso algunas Reseñas (las cuales te recomiendo no revisar, porque suelen tener spoilers).
I appreciate recommendations from this page, because as a reader I sometimes find myself tired of the monotony in the genres that I habituate, so when I enter Goodreads the first thing I do is go to Recommendations and there when I click on the cover of a book I can see its Synopsis, Rating (in stars from 1 to 5) that other users have given it, and even some Reviews (which I recommend not reviewing because they usually have spoilers).

A todos nos ha pasado que nos preguntan si hemos leído un libro, y no logramos recordarlo; si ingresas a tu Goodreads, al buscar el nombre del libro verás si ya lo marcaste (súper sencillo!) o si de lo contrario, podrá estar en tus próximas lecturas.
It has happened to all of us that they ask us if we have read a book, and we cannot remember it; If you enter your Goodreads when looking for the name of the book you will see if you already marked it (super simple!) or if otherwise, it could be in your next readings.

Siii, algo que no había mencionado es que al igual que harás amigos de todo el Mundo, podrás seguir a cualquier autor con el que simpatices; así como, ver sus recomendaciones, sus citas de libros favoritas, e incluso realizarle una pregunta del libro que más te gusta.

5.Realizar reseñas

Muchas veces, luego de leer un libro queremos gritarle al Mundo lo increíble que fue o todo lo contrario, además de comentar detalles sobre él como: si la redacción fue de tu agrado, los personajes, la historia en sí, el mensaje. Para publicar reseñas aquí es bastante sencillo, te permite agregar la fecha en que iniciaste la lectura y cuándo finalizaste, conjunto a tu valoración.
Many times, after reading a book we want to shout to the World how incredible it was or quite the opposite, in addition to commenting on details about it such as: if the writing was to your liking, the characters, the story itself, the message. Publishing reviews here is quite simple, it allows you to add the date you started reading, and when you finished, together with your assessment.

Cada año Goodreads te propone el Reading Challenge, en el cuál estableces la meta de libros a leer para ese año. Esto se convierte en una excelente motivación, que te lleva año tras año a superarte en la lectura. En mi caso, para este año por mi carrera universitaria, había establecido la meta de 20 libros únicamente, sin embargo ya logré sobrepasarla (un poco gracias a la Cuarentena, debo admitir!)
Every year Goodreads offers you the Reading Challenge, in which you set the goal of books to read for that year. This becomes an excellent motivation, which takes you year after year to improve yourself in reading. In my case, for this year for my university career, I had set the goal of only 20 books, however, I already managed to surpass it (a little thanks to the Quarantine, I must admit!)

The site or should I say book social media has an easy way to explore books and read a lot of them, and also allows to make friends with people all through the world. That sounds great.
20 books a year is pretty much! 😅. I have never finished a book in a year before not ever read it to half way in a year. I think I have a problem with reading books.
