Esta es una fruta que desconocía, supe de ella cuándo visité Chile, no la había visto en ninguno de mis viajes anteriores. Me intrigó tanto por su forma como por su nombre. En este post les muestro unas fotografías de este fruto y les contaré un poco sobre él.
I did know this fruit before traveling to Chile, I have not seen it elsewhere. In Chile it has a peculiar name pepino dulce (“sweet cucumber”). I was intrigued by this name. In this post I will show some photos of it and give a short description of it.
Por su sabor y olor se parece mucho al melón, sin embargo su forma textura exterior es bastante diferente, su piel es muy suave y delgada. De acuerdo con wikipedia, estos frutos no están relacionados. Es originario de Suramérica, pero en Venezuela ni en Brasil es conocido.
Its smell and taste is quite similar to the melon, however its texture is quite different. Its external skin is quite soft and fragile. However according to wikipedia, these two fruits are not related. It is native from South America, however I have not seen it in Venezuela nor Brazil.
En Chile se le conoce como “pepino dulce”, debo admitir que es un nombre bastante extraño ya que no se asemeja a un pepino. En otros países se le dice “pepino melón” o “melón de árbol”, este ultimo se debe a que su planta es un pequeño arbusto.
In spite the fact it is called “pepino dulce”, it looks very different to a cucumber (in Spanish “pepino”). In other countries it is known as “pepino melon” or “melon de arbola” (tree melon), since it grows in a small tree.
En las fotos que muestro hoy pueden ver las características exteriores e interiores de este “fruto exótico”. Como saben soy un gran entusiasta del blanco y negro por lo que también presento algunas fotos en este formato.
