El día que conocí a María Corina Machado
Alejado del activismo político durante más de 18 años, sólo manteniendo un rol en los últimos 8 años de consultor y asesor en materia de liderazgo y comunicación política, he estado siguiendo la evolución y madurez de esta valiente mujer que sin duda alguna será la primera mujer presidenta de Venezuela.
En toda gira de campaña electoral los estrategas tratamos de que el candidato se reúna con personas representativas del sitio que visita. En muchos casos ni siquiera se busca reclutar al invitado si no que el objetivo es que la candidata intercambie ideas con personas que puedan aportar para el enriquecimiento de la narrativa. En esta oportunidad y gracias a la invitación de jóvenes políticos monaguenses Carlos Bastardo y Pedro Briceño tuve la oportunidad de compartir en la hora del almuerzo con María corina machado y su equipo político nacional.
La candidata regresaba de su gira por la zona de Caripito, Municipio Bolívar y de hacer una parada en Tropical Municipio Punceres, llegando al lugar del almuerzo casi siendo las dos de la tarde. Salimos al encuentro una vez que se bajó de su carro y fue conociendo a cada uno de los invitados, empresarios, profesionales, comerciantes, así poco apoco fuimos conociéndola. De una sonrisa espontánea y amable pero con un saludo firme, fue preguntado a cada uno su nombre y agradeciendo el poder compartir con ella. Como en campaña electoral el tiempo es oro, Vamos a comer y hablamos que tengo que estar en el colegio médico, me gusta ser puntal en mis actividades. Otra vez una muestra de educación, delicadeza y firmeza, además de ser una frase que me mostró parte de los valores de la futura presidenta.
Una vez que comenzamos a degustar una deliciosa comida, servida por el anfitrión, la candidata iba respondiendo las inquietudes que se le iban haciendo, cuando me correspondió el turno, mi intervención fue para conversar sobre su opinión sobre la industria petrolera, su visión de cómo debe reorganizarse el negocio petrolero. En ese momento a María la cara le brilló, y con una gran pasión, empezó con una frase: Hay que desmontar el socialismo, para recuperar el negocio petrolero debemos abrirnos al mercado internacional. En este momento dejé de comer y se produjo mi flechazo, me había cautivado la candidata.
En mi vida política solo había leído la claridad de la visión sobre el petróleo planteada por Don Rómulo Betancourt en materia petrolera plasmada en una brillante obra Venezuela, Política y Petróleo hasta este día de finales de marzo sentado en Tipuro, escuchado de viva voz de la mujer que va conducir los largos y exigentes procesos de recuperación de nuestro país. Después de la libertad lo más importante es recuperar y reformar el negocio petrolero. Concordamos que es necesaria una nueva narrativa en torno a esta materia, Ni el petróleo es del pueblo, ni se podrá restablecer la meritocracia. Ni la empresa es la misma, ni el país es el mismo.
Faltando unos minutos para la tres de la tarde, María corina, póngase de acuerdo con nuestro equipo para seguir intercambiando ideas sobre este vital tema, pero nos tenemos que ir la gente del colegio médico nos espera. La interesante y entretenida tertulia petrolera no la distrajo de su disciplinada conducta de llegar a tiempo a los actos programados.
Como anécdota final me sorprendió el hecho de que ella conduce su carro, me entere que desde hace 6 años no la dejan volar, no puede comprar un boleto aéreo, por lo que ha recorrido el país por tierra. Tremendo daño que le han hecho, María ha comido empanadas y arepas en todos los lugares y en todas las carreteras del país.
Espero que tú también te animes y conozcas a María Corina una mujer que va a cambiar la historia de este país.
The day I met María Corina Machado
Since I was very young I felt a great attraction for political activity, perhaps the influence of my father who, being a leader of Acción Democrática, used to take me to his tours and takeovers of the educational sector in the villages of Monagas. During my years as a political activist I had the opportunity to see and talk with several presidential pre-candidates in the golden age of democracy. In the new millennium I was able to talk with former President Perez, I also talked with Spanish President Rodriguez Zapatero and with the current president, Mr. Maduro, because we were for five years in the same workplace. But none of them made such a good impression on me as the day I had lunch with María Corina Machado.
Away from political activism for more than 18 years, only maintaining a role in the last 8 years as a consultant and advisor on leadership and political communication, I have been following the evolution and maturity of this brave woman who will undoubtedly be the first woman president of Venezuela.
In every electoral campaign tour, strategists try to have the candidate meet with people representative of the place he/she is visiting. In many cases we do not even seek to recruit the guest, but rather the objective is for the candidate to exchange ideas with people who can contribute to the enrichment of the narrative. In this opportunity and thanks to the invitation of young politicians from Monaguá Carlos Bastardo and Pedro Briceño, I had the opportunity to share lunch with María Corina Machado and her national political team.
The candidate was returning from her tour in the area of Caripito, Municipality of Bolivar and from making a stop in Tropical Municipality of Punceres, arriving at the place for lunch at almost two o'clock in the afternoon. We went out to meet her once she got out of her car and got to know each one of the guests, businessmen, professionals, merchants, and little by little we got to know her. With a spontaneous and friendly smile, but with a firm greeting, she asked each one their name and thanked them for being able to share with her. As in election campaign time is money, let's have lunch and talk about that I have to be at the medical school, I like to be a prop in my activities. Again a sample of education, delicacy and firmness, besides being a phrase that showed me part of the values of the future president.
Once we began to enjoy a delicious meal, served by the host, the candidate was answering the questions that were being asked, when it was my turn, my intervention was to talk about her opinion on the oil industry, her vision of how the oil business should be reorganized. At that moment María's face shone, and with great passion, she began with a phrase: Socialism must be dismantled, to recover the oil business we must open up to the international market. At that moment, I stopped eating and the oil business was reorganized.
In my political life, I had only read the clarity of the vision on oil proposed by Mr. Rómulo Betancourt in a brilliant work Venezuela, Politics and Oil, until this day at the end of March, sitting in Tipuro, listening to the voice of the woman who will lead the long and demanding process of recovery of our country. After freedom, the most important thing is to recover and reform the oil business. We agree that a new narrative is necessary in this matter. Neither the oil belongs to the people, nor can meritocracy be reestablished. Neither the company is the same, nor the country is the same.
A few minutes before three o'clock in the afternoon, María Corina agreed with our team to continue exchanging ideas on this vital topic, but we have to go, the people from the medical school are waiting for us. The interesting and entertaining oil talk did not distract her from her disciplined behavior of arriving on time to the scheduled events.
As a final anecdote I was surprised by the fact that she drives her car, I found out that she has not been allowed to fly for 6 years, she cannot buy an air ticket, so she has traveled the country by land. Tremendous damage they have done to her, Maria has eaten empanadas and arepas in every place and on every road in the country.
I hope you too will be encouraged and meet María Corina, a woman who is going to change the history of this country.
