Hello everyone,

I am always happy sharing piece of my works here but unfortunately I've been unable to be consistent and this is due to the fact that I lost my mobile phone and it has been difficult coming online. Although I found a little phone I'm managing now and that's why I'm able to make a post today.

In this post I will be showing us how I made a kaftan top. It is very easy to create and you can also try it if you have little knowledge of sowing.

MATERIALS USED

  • Fabric (ankara)
  • Paper stay
  • Hair stay
  • Irish materials
  • Thread

Before proceeding to cutting of materials or fabrics, what to be considered first is measurements and in cutting of kaftan top the following measurements should be considered

  • The shoulder
  • The chest
  • The sleeve
  • The length
  • The neck

For this particular work, the measurements used is as follows:

  • Shoulder 18
  • Chest 40
  • Sleeve 10
  • Length 32
  • Neck 16

After measurements has been ascertain, you can proceed to cutting of the fabric.

CUTTING PROCESS

  • I folded the materials into two (2) by 11.5 inches taking into consideration the measurements of the chest 40 inches divided by 4 which is 10 inches, 1 inch as sewing allowance then 0.5 inch as for sleet allowance
  • I measured the neck 2.25 by 3 inches, then the shoulder which is 9.5 inches i.e 18 divided by 2 then 0.5 inch as sewing allowance, thereafter the shoulder rest 2 inches which from there you measure the armhole 7inches for this particular measurements, it can be more, depending on the body size, then the chest 11.5 inches as I've explained previously

  • To cut the back, you fold again like we did when cutting the front, then we place the front we cut earlier on the fabric measured 3inches from the upper part of the shoulder and2. 5 inches from the lower part of the shoulder then join the dotted line and cut out.

  • The back was folded to meet the front in order to get the continuation of the neck after which it was cut backward.
  • Then we proceed to sleeve, fold the fabric by 20 inches then fold into 2 again to make 10 matches.

  • Cut out the back landing taking a piece of fabric, placing on-the-bck to cut the upper part of the back.
