Gaining knowledge is like digging a well - Sanskrit teachings

in GEMSlast year

There are many fields of knowledge to learn. People assume learning as an easy job. But to gain a knowledge one has to do lot of effort and go through lot pain. Accessing knowledge is not an easy job. To gain a k olwdge one has to find a teacher and then do all possible effort to grasp all that the teacher posses.

The process of gaining knowledge is nicely be explained in following Sanskrit shlokas.

खनित्वा हि खनित्रेण भूतले वारि विन्दति|

तथा गुरुगतां विद्या शुश्रूषुरधिगच्छति||

Khanitvaa hi khanitrena bhootale vaari vindati.
Tathaa gurugataam vidyaa shushrooshuradhigacchati.

Khanitvaa = Digging.
Hi = surely.
Khanitrena = By a spade or a pick axe
Bhotale = Ground surface
Vaari = water.
vindati = Find.
Tathaa = so also.
Gurugataam = belonging to a Guru (teacher) Vidya = knowledge
Shushrooshuradhigacchati = shushrooshu + adhigacchati.
Shushrooshu = eagerness, serving. Adhigacchati = learns.

To explain gaining the knowledge process the scholar makes an example of digging a well. As by digging the surface of ground with the help of a spade and pick axe we are able to find underground
water,in the same manner the Knowledge a Teacher possesses,can be learnt by a student by diligently serving and obeying his Teacher.

Acquiring knowledge from a Guru / teacher is not an easy task. This has been compared to digging a well to fetch the underground water. To get to the water level,various implements requires, likewise to gain knowledge much patience and commitment are required by every student.

Learning is Passion!!
