Welcome to the guitar tutorial (Part 7).
The Tonic, in this case the base chord, refers to the first degree on a musical scale; the Dominant chord is placed one fifth above the tonic, producing a function of attraction towards it, while the Subdominant chord is placed one fifth below the tonic, producing a function of attraction towards the Dominant, thus completing a harmonic cadence. However, the aim of this tutorial, rather than deepening the theory, is to show you some practical exercises that in my personal experience allow us to improve the musical ear and familiarize ourselves with the basic harmonic cadences on the guitar.
La Tónica, en este caso el acorde base, se refiere al primer grado en una escala musical; el acorde Dominante se ubica una quinta por arriba de la tónica, produciendo una función de atracción hacia la misma, mientras que el acorde Subdominante se ubica una quinta por debajo de la tónica, produciendo una función de apresto hacia la Dominante, completando así una cadencia armónica. Sin embargo el propósito de este tutorial más que profundizar en la teoría, es mostrarles algunos ejercicios prácticos que en mi experiencia personal nos permiten mejorar el oído musical e ir familiarizándonos con las candencias armónicas básicas en la guitarra.
For this exercise let’s follow the following pattern with both major and minor chords:
