Building Trust

in GEMS6 years ago

Trust is neither gifted nor entrusted, it is earned. More often than not, truth and trust work together. Someone that is not truthful in little matters will likely not be truthful in much and will lose trust over time. Trust is actually the basis of living. At some points in your life, you have to trust wholly or your life will turn out to be very impossible. You are able to board a plane and fly because you trust the pilot with your life. This same thing happens in similar and dissimilar ways daily. Take away trust and you will have a wrecked humanity.

Building trust may take time but with just a wrong action, the trust that took you years to build can come crashing - so be cautions of what you do per time. Any moral training you have that is void of trust has already met with shipwreck. Sometimes you need to suspend your logics and your brain and follow your instincts and your heart because that is where trust resides.

Trust also gives birth to trust. The person that has a very hard time trusting will also gain little or no trust from others. You will agree with me that you naturally tend to trust someone more when you know that they trust you too. Imagine a doctor refusing to fly airplanes because he does not trust any pilot with his life. How will others also trust the doctor with their lives if they fall sick?

No doubt, some people may have encountered and experienced very bad people in the past that their trust level may have been hampered, but it does not mean that everyone else is bad. Always remember that because one bee stings you does not mean all the others will, so do not set out to destroy all the bee hives because you will lack honey if you do.

The point where trusting people is very difficult is the point you need to trust more. First of all, you need to trust yourself. For you to be able to trust others, you must, as a matter of necessity, trust yourself first. Self-trust leads to trust on others. Trust your abilities, trust your instincts, trust your intuition and above all, trust your heart to make the right decision.

Sometimes the truth may not appear logical but because of the trust you have built with the person, you will not have problem believing it. This is why your actions should be geared towards earning more trust instead of trying to force people to trust you. You may force someone to fear you but not to trust you. If you need trust, then you need to work to earn it.

Hi @samminator

This is an interesting post as I am passionate about building functional teams by establishing trust. I believe trust is the basis for our society. As cavemen, we trusted our fellow villagers so that when we went hunting, we came home and found our possessions, family etc. all safe. Without trust, society can go nowhere.

I love the analogy of the cavemen you gave.
Exactly, trust is needed for society to progress.
Thanks a lot for coming around
