There are times when things will go wrong or when wrong things are done but it may not affect you directly but it does not mean you do not have to speak up against it. Whether the wrong that is done is affecting you directly or not, you have a duty to humanity to speak against it because the silence of the good people in the face of evil does not only make the evil to continue but it make the good people part of the evil. Yeah, this is simply termed "contributory negligence".
If bad things happen to others and you do not speak out, there is a propensity that the bad things may keep reoccurring and when it comes to your own turn, no one will speak out for you because you were silent at the beginning. Many people have the mentality of "it is none of my business" in the face of evil done against others. Well, just to let you know, for the fact that you have already known about it and you refuse to speak up, then their business is already becoming your own business because it shows approval.
The evils in your neighbourhood and in the world at large have continued to see the light of the day because of the fact that many good people have chosen to do nothing maybe because it does not affect them or the people they care about directly. However, the truth is, the evil that goes around, which they have refused to speak against, will come around them one day. By then, the people that should speak against it may have been victims of the former evil. Remember this quote:
They came for the Jews but I did not speak against it simply because I am not a Jew. They also came for the Greek and I refused to speak against it because I am not a Greek. Now that they have come for me, no one is left to speak against it.
Acting against an evil does not mean acting beyond your ability. It means doing your own part to smoothen the rough edges. When every good person reacts against evil, evil will reduced massively. Right from the corner of your neighbourhood, there is an evil you can react against but it will start by you caring about your neighbourhood first. When you normalize not caring when evil is done to others, if it becomes your own turn, people will also have a cold feet towards you.
Your goodness is only proven when you use it to smoothen the rough edges that have been created by evil deeds. In the dark night, having a lantern but not lighting it does not profit you anything. In the same way, having a good heart in the world full of darkness and evil without using it to do good is futile. It is the goodness that you show in the face of badness that will make the differences in the world.
You do not have to be a superhero or have super powers to affect the world positively. Right from the corner of your neighbourhood, allow your inner light to shine to the people around you. Note this, the continuity of evil deeds only proves the silence of good people.
