I did read the post from beginning to end! I sometimes personally view it as speaking into a digital void despite how loud and groovy social media can be.
I think a disconnect could come from average users becoming more inclined on being passive consumers, like pressing the like button is way much easier than trying to make sense of the content and engaging with it before pressing the like button.

I suppose it also bears remembering that we need to have content consumers as well as content creators, meaning that some people are just passive, as you suggest. Just like not everyone "rates" the movie they just watched on Netflix.
I admit that I am a bit "old school" in the sense that my social media beginnings were the birth of blogging, around 1998.
Definitely old school lol. Mine began around 2010, mostly around Facebook at that time. Quite a lot has changed since then, especially with the proliferation of short form content.
