What Does Hive Mean To Me? A Continuity of Blockchain Experiments

What is Hive to you?

For me, Hive is the disregarded experiment of "a"(that name I don't want to write) blockchain that we've used to have before. It is a warcry of a community wanting support and sustainability from a leader who failed to deliver concise promises. It is far more than decentralization or governance issue but most likely, security of wealth, distribution and fairness of support.

Are we still centralized? Nope, So we are decentralized now? Maybe a little spread of decentralization but not totally, close enough I guess. Hive is on collective decentralization status, where a group of good actors/witnesses running their operations separately but with the common goal of providing the services we needed to enjoy the privileges that the blockchain offers. Though I don't see anything negative about that, we can still further improve the current mechanism of which everyone who contributes shall be rewarded. From content creators to curators and investors, to witnesses of the lowest rank to top, they can all enjoy the perks of this promising blockchain.

Hive is still an experiment. From its successful implementation to its future uses, it will always be in a continuous process of innovation and integration. It will face many inevitable problems on its course along with drawbacks from trial and error procedures. In spite of those, we have the community to test every possible solutions that the witnesses may incorporate to the blockchain. I believe DPoS will be tested even more.

What do you want to see HIVE evolve into?

Hive is a re-modeled community of content creators, curators as investors and blockchain developers or witnesses. So if I were to wish Hive would evolve into something, I would put myself into those collaborators' shoe and thought independently of something that would benefit me as a contributor. No one should ever get the edge of having most of the reward no matter how big or small his/her contribution is or what type of contributor he/she is. Everyone plays a vital role in this chain.

Let's start for being a content creator. As a content creator myself, I would love to see Hive evolve into more diverse product of information where the stored data can be in a form of any text, video, picture, art, literature, etc. that are all valuable. That there would be available tools for easy ways to make a content or conveniently manage your profile that can aide you in reaching more consumers. Furthermore, it would be impractical to have a separate UI of tools for Hive; the best is to have them embedded on every front-ends of Hive blockchain. As for the rewards, I don't think there should be a need for tweaking because the majority of the reward pool goes to the content creators and curators.

Next is being a curator as investor. Curation is an integral part of the distribution of rewards(in a form of Hive native tokens) for the content creators and the curators themselves therefore, curation should never be a wasted operation. This problem occurs when curators don't have the proper ways to deliberately evaluate a genuine content or a bad one; plus some of the curators are bots or running automatic upvotes. Thus, resulting to re-distribution of rewards and a wasted power for the curators. To mitigate this problem, it would be sufficient enough to have a smarter way to detect any untruthful content on the UI side. I know it will be a hard time creating this kind of complexity in the blockchain but lets just give it a time and hopefully, a try.

Now, talking about developers as contributors or witnesses to the chain, those recommendations above would never be realize if no blockchain developers or witnesses that would commit themselves to improve Hive. I will be focusing mainly on block producers of the Hive as they're not just important to the system as machine servers but also in governance for decision-making. I believe they're not compensated well enough for their commitments especially those who are on the lowest spots. So if I were to become one of them, I would love to see every witnesses be rewarded fairly and evenly regardless of their spot in the ranking as long as they're running their nodes. I also want every witnesses to have their own established community as a give and take support group.

With these features I have envisioned for Hive, anyone can be a curator, a content creator and a witness at the same time.

What do you think about having a large funded DAO for future HIVE development?

I think the Hive DAO is the most crucial part of the Hive blockchain today and what makes it more important than any other substantial protocol, is that, it fuels the future developments of Hive. It should be what it was from the beginning or what it has promised to be. It's really a relief that the ninja-mined stakes turned DAO will be manage properly and truthfully(hopefully). The only question for me now is who will be responsible for its usage. As of now, the hive blockchain is composed of more than 50 working developers including PRs, integrators and witnesses. I wonder who'll be next Ned Scott from those people.

Moreover, I'm so curious of what could be the other possibilities for the development of Hive now that the DAO is in total support of it.

What does HIVE mean to you?

I would iterate it again. Hive for me is a blockchain experiment and it will forever continue as an experiment of the evolved minds. I will stick into that.

But I couldn't deny this feeling that I'm slowly seeing it on a much greater visualization of a place for broad opportunities and becoming lesser as a money churner. Well maybe, some might still have that perception of a blockchain of money-generating machine, but not for some. I believe not for some who are passionate enough to what they love and good at what to do nor for some who are professional enough to accept the compensation they needed for the contribution they served.

Extremely well written.

Really valid points on experimentation.

DPos will be tested and the true communalization will be challenged again and again.

Amen to that :)
