But do you know the story of why it's called Valentine's Day? No? well, here I tell you.
It all begins in the year 270 B.C. in Rome. There was a priest named St. Valentine, at that time the emperor was Claudius II, emperor who banned love celebrations and marriages for young people, Claudius did this because he thought that if he eliminated any kind of commitment in young couples, they would be better soldiers for the Roman Empire.
The priest Saint Valentine thought this was very unfair, so Saint Valentine decided to secretly and clandestinely celebrate marriages in secret, breaking the rules imposed by Claudius II, thanks to the actions that Valentine did, he became the "Patron Saint of Lovers".
When it was discovered the acts that Valentin was committing, the emperor imprisoned him, and to test him as a Saint, an official asked him to restore sight to his daughter who was born blind, Valentin accepted and achieved the miracle healing the blind girl. Finally he would finish with the life of Saint Valentine executing him on February 14 of the year 270.
Thanks to Pope Gelasius I in 494 he officially proclaimed February 14 as St. Valentine's Day. It was added to the traditional liturgical calendar, and has been celebrated by the Catholic Church for the next 15 centuries.
Currently St. Valentine's Day is one of the most known and acclaimed Saints in the world and without a doubt one of the most commercialized dates in the world.
