This is my entry for POSTING INITIATIVE organized by @galenkp

I live in the city, Caracas, capital of my country, Venezuela, a jungle of cement that I take advantage of any moment to abandon and flee to the mountains or beach.

I don't remember the feeling I had when I was little when my parents said this weekend we are going to the beach.

But surely it was the same that I felt when a family of a good friend of my son informed me that in 15 days we are going to the field and you are invited, possibly my expression gave me away and they were able to notice my excitement, it was 15 days of not sleep, visualizing the environment full of nature that awaited me away from the stress and pollution of the city.

It was an 8 hour trip, each one seemed absorbed in their emotions, mine, I watched as little by little I left the city behind, completely filled my lungs looking for something more in each breath of air that became cooler as we moved away and We went through each state to get closer to the Andean area of my country.

The states that comprise the Andean zone are Mérida, Táchira, Barinas, Apure and Trujillo.

Boconó is a town in the Trujillo state and is about 8 hours by road from the capital of Venezuela.

They gave us an emotional welcome, there was a slight aroma of coffee and I thought they were brewing that delicious drink and indeed we were welcomed with a good cup of black coffee.

  • I commented that I perceived its aroma and they answered that it was freshly roasted and ground, that in the morning they would go to the coffee plantations, that I could accompany them and see the process, I was delighted, I just wanted it to arrive the next day.

The coffee plantations.

The coffee planting process takes two years to obtain a sufficient harvest, it can take a month to collect the mature grain, in those years the planting is kept clean by dismantling the surroundings.

The working days to harvest the harvest are 10 hours, being very hard work.

The Garabato is a stick that is hooked to the trunk of the coffee bush to pull and lower the highest branches, you can use both hands. With the fingertips of the thumb and index finger you press down to collect the largest amount of seed and deposit it in the Catabre, the Catabre is a basket that is tied around the waist and collects the seeds at the time of collection.

Everything collected in the Catabres is deposited in sacks, using pack horses to transport them to the patio where they are cylinder and thus obtain a grain with one less husk.

The next step is to separate the fruit of the cherry from the coffee through the cylinder and thus obtain a grain with one less peel.

When passing the grain through the cylinder, it is left for about 5 days to be sequenced and thus pass it through the thresher.

After this time it is passed through the threshing machine to extract the last shell and classify it according to its quality, shape and size.

When roasted, it goes through a mill where the result is a delicious coffee with its characteristic aroma ready to consume.

In roasting, coffee gets its characteristic flavor, aroma and color.

When passing it through the mill the grain is reduced to powder, if the coffee is prepared just after this process, a more intense aroma and flavor are obtained.

And finally its preparation, the consumer's taste will determine the way to prepare it, I like it dark very hot.

Enjoying the countryside was a very rich experience, knowing the coffee plantations was one of them, enjoying these spaces allows you to know yourself and be aware of the things that really matter to you in life. Let's say it would be like a spiritual retreat that leads you to reflect on the value that there is in each sunrise, giving much more value to your life.
