It is important to live healthy life. Not only for yourself but also for your loved one. Our little effort and understand may help us in this regard. We take energy in the form of food and drink. Unit of energy is calorie or Kcal. Fortunately water doesn't add any calories. All food which give us energy have certain calories. Food we eat consist of carbohydrates, Proteins, Fat each have different calories.

1 Gram of Carbohydrates gives 4 Calories
1 Gram of Pretein gives 4 Calories
1 Gram of Fat gives 9 Calories.

So same quanity of fats give us 2.25 more calories than carbohydrates and protein. Now, the question arise how much calories we need in our daily diet. Friends, it depends upon your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). BMR is the minimum amount of energy required for your body to work when at rest. You can easily calculate BMR yourself. Formula for men and women is pretty different.

Women:
BMR = 655 + (9.6 × weight in kg) + (1.8 × height in cm) – (4.7 × age in years)
Men:
BMR = 66 + (13.7 × weight in kg) + (5 × height in cm) – (6.8 × age in years)

BMR is the minimum requirement of your body. Now, the second question arise how much we need to maintain the same weight. The answer is simple. It depends upon your life style. For sedentary life style you have to multiply BMR by 1.2. For lighter active person multiply BMR by 1.375. Moderately active person multiply BMR by 1.55 and very active multiply BMR by 1.75. Extra active person can take 1.9 time of BMR value to maintain their weight.

Remember, excessive calorie will gain weight and less calorie will reduce weight. One pound of weight = 3500 calorie. This means if you want to increase/decrease one pound weight you have to take/consume 3500 more/less calories. If a person want to loose one pound weight in one week, all he needs to consume 500 less calories per day. Similary at the end of week if a person take 500 additional calories everyday he will gain one pound every week.

Very interesting. The thing is most people don't want to bother with counting calories and just eat.
