Fun at the Steeple Grange Light Railway!

in Proof of Brain2 years ago

We called in at the Steeple Grange Light Railway. It is run by volunteers near Wirksworth in Derbyshire. The railway is built on part of the old Cromford and High Peak Railway trackbed which is now the High Peak Trail.

We had a ride on one of the ex-industrial diesel, petrol, and battery-electric locomotives. The actual carriages were once used to take miners down into the pit.

Passengers were safely in and the green flag was waved, so off we went.

Someone's pooch also had a ride. I'm not sure what was going through her mind.

There were two train rides, one travelling through limestone cuttings up to Middleton and a second ride into Steeplehouse Quarry.

Volunteers were there to show us the fossils that have been found in the local area. Everyone was very knowledgeable and friendly and a good time was had by all!
