Where is now the Bolsonaro of the strong, courageous and unafraid speeches against the "system"? I think this Bolsonaro "died". Yesterday (09/07) Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro's supporters received with much surprise and astonishment an official note from him in favor of peace between the powers of the Brazilian republic.
This "peace" note comes shortly after his highly inflammatory speeches against the Brazilian Supreme Court and its ministers during Brazil's Independence Day festivities on September 7, 2021.
The note, of course, brought many discussions among its supporters. A part of them says that it was necessary Bolsonaro to do this, because the pressure from the media and opposition politicians against him (that is calling for impeachment) was too great, which could cause a gigantic financial crisis in Brazil.
Other supporters say Bolsonaro betrayed the ideals created himself, of combat, strength, of not giving in to a corrupt political system. For these supporters, Bolsonaro betrayed the people who support him and hoped that he would have more courage and not give in to pressure.
In my opinion, I believe Bolsonaro should be more calm when communicating with his supporters. Perhaps if he didn't put so much "gasoline on the fire", instigated his supporters to go to the conflict, this note of request for "peace" would not be necessary. In a way, and in my view, Bolsonaro chickened out.
Following the line of thought of Bolsonaro's "more radical" supporters (as the media and Brazilian newspapers say), they saw Bolsonaro as similar to Donald Trump. Many even in the protests raised the posters with the words: "BolsoTrump", as if Bolsonaro was equal in ideas and positioning to the former American president, Donald Trump.
Following this line of thought, analyzing and comparing the trajectory of both, I see that Trump was much braver than Bolsonaro as president.
Trump really went "to the end," he didn't flinch, he didn't back down, and he stuck to his supporters, he never abandoned them. The same cannot be said of Bolsonaro. Many of his faithful supporters are in prison now, and we don't see a single word from Bolsonaro regretting seeing them in prison and asking for their release to the authorities.
The result of this request for "peace" by Bolsonaro is already possible to see on his social networks. On Bolsonaro's official Facebook and Instagram profiles, millions of people stopped following him. Many supporters call him "coward", "traitor", "Judas".
The future of this whole issue is still uncertain. What can be sure is that contrary to what Bolsonaro expected, the media (which is now in opposition to him), political parties and the Supreme Court will hardly accept this request for peace and will not back down.
