International language of food

Free !PIZZA.

You don't need to speak the local language to point and buy some food. In high school I studied a second language to order from a menu. I had no idea that food itself was the international language. Food breaks through all cultural barriers to say,

"Mmmm. good".

Our eyes love the colors of new foods and our taste buds are always ready for a challenge. Anything from a pickled radish to dragon fruit from Vietnam could get the purple taste buds going.

Kimchi

The first day I tried Kimchi I was taken for a spin. It was more than a pickle. It was a mixture of flavors from the sea and the land, hot and spicy, salty and sour and sweet at the same time. It was everything rolled up in one with probiotics that could not be beat.

Octopus

I grew up in a land of corn thousands of miles from the sea, but my kids grew up eating live octopus and fresh caught fish. It's not strange to them, but it's just the way of life.

He eats them raw or cooked. He especially likes them with noodles. Since covid time we couldn't visit many places but he asks me to take him to a restaurant that sells noodles and seafood. The problem is these restaurants are closed now.

image.png

Just eat it!

The international language for hospitality accepted is an empty plate. The problem with traveling is that jet plays tricks on the stomach. The normal times for eating are off and the tiredness decreases the normal appetite. The host is happy when you love the food.

The last time I traveled I brought my teenage son with me to complete the task of finishing off the plates. We went through Southern India and came to a farm in Tamil-nadu. We were served bowls of beans and rice and chicken. What he wanted was a hamburger. I told him that was all we were getting. The host who was my friend's mom was really upset he was not eating more. My son cannot speak Tamil, but he knew what she was saying. She pointed to the food and opened up her mouth wide and then she poked him in the stomach making him flinch.

It took a poke in the stomach, but he finally learned the international language of food. It would be nice if all the food tasted the way we liked or suited all of of desires but sometimes it doesn't . The best thing to do is smile and eat. And if you are smart like my youngest son you will look for the family dog and share some of that food so it looks like you licked your plate clean. He gat a pat on the head instead of a poke in the tummy.

When we come home I settle on something closer to my ancestral roots. All we have is eggplant from the garden and some soybean tofu, but that doesn't stop me. I transform the eggplant into a meatball tasting lasagna entre. I use the tofu to cut down on the cheese in the lasagna and make a healthy Italian-Korean fusion. Even my nona would be proud of me.

Live octopus? Goodness me! I sure know that this is a thing in Vietnam, I didn't know it was also popular in Japan. Asian countries sure knows how to manipulate diverse ingredients to get a whole lot of delicacies.

I hope to travel one day as well to taste diverse food, wouldn't know how eating live fish would seem for me

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Ha! You'll really love the live octopus more! Don't you think so? It's either you stay away or you go choke🤭

Posted via proofofbrain.io

It's actually fun to eat @teknon. I'm just glad my kids are better at eating this stuff than me.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Its an exotic culture, I might not

안녕하세요^^

Posted via proofofbrain.io

It's chewy and has the suckers so you have to bite it before it gets you. I was really surprised my son liked it so much.

My kids love Pho… and so do I…. there is a Pho restaurant here called Pho bac and they make the best Seafood Pho I have ever tasted. They give you so much Fresh Basil and coriander and sprouts to add to the top… along with some hot sauce, and fresh lime…it’s… just incredible. The shrimp 🍤 spring rolls dipped in fish sauce is also amazing.

It sounds like you found a great restaurant to suit your taste buds @offgridlide,

My youngest son orders this often. There is a Vietnamese restaurant that serves this down the block from us. He likes it when he has a sore throat. They don't add basil but I have some growing on the balcony. Maybe I will add it next time. Those sprouts are really important. When I first got married I didn't have much money and split one soup with the two of us. The sprouts were all you can eat so we mostly ate the sprouts. At the time it was the only way we could eat at a restaurant. A lot has changed since then.

Spring rolls are not usually served in Korea. I do miss them and I also miss the "Greek Dinner" style restaurants that dot America. I miss coming any time of day and ordering breakfast.

Now that I think of it I often remember eating !PIZZA for breakfast as college student.

Oh yes I ate a lot of cold !PIZZA for breakfast in University. Very good.

Man, people who like their visitors to eat would pull out a ring and propose to me, because I'd eat the shit out of their food! I'm a foodie type of guy and I eat a lot. I also love to try new foods😋

My favourite food is an African dish called 'ekpang', it belongs to the Efik Tribe of Cross River State Nigeria. It's quite hard to prepare but when an expert makes it I go to the moon!

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Ekpang looks like something I would eat in the Caribbean. I think I would love this dish with goat and crab. That's a good choice @nevies. Does it serve as an aphrodisiac?

Hahaha, I see google is your friend 😂. Nice.
It doesn't serve as an aphrodisiac, though. Unfortunately. And that gives me an idea, why the fuck is my favourite food not an aphrodisiac? I have to take some time out for some introspection and self evaluation.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Eels and oysters. That will do it for me... Sometimes coffee and cinnamon. Experience beats google.

Oh I thought rajma chawal was your favorite. I sent the pizza command there. Looks like I have to stock up my refrigerator at hive-engine^^

I have been extremely busy the past couple days with a summer retreat. I cannot write a lot here but I really miss interacting with you. I guess in time I became addicted to this writing and sharing and blockchain. Crazy stuff. I haven't been to my office in over a week so mostly I've been interacting through my cell phone.

Thanks always for your good words @vikbuddy.

Oh, dear. Take your time friend. Its good to have some break. This social blockchain is too addictive, we need to take back control of our lives, it will bring better quality in our work. Enjoy your life, have a Great day. 😊 !PIZZA
