The ugliest and most special dog in the world

Koqui was definitely the ugliest dog in the world, with wild eyes, matted hair and limping on one leg, but I didn't care, he was hurt, hungry and looked at me as if asking for help, that was enough for me to take him home and make him my friend forever.

No matter how much my parents scolded and scolded me, I didn't give in to my defense of Koqui. The dog didn't help much for his own cause either, he was disastrous, he did his business wherever he pleased, he barked late at night, if you were careless he would eat your lunch, but the most curious thing is the excessive "affection" he had for the neighbor's cat.

In movies and cartoons dogs are usually characterized as enemies of cats but Koqui apparently didn't know that. One night I took him out to do his business when suddenly Pity, the neighbor's Persian cat, appeared out of nowhere, without giving me time to restrain my dog. Koqui gets off the leash and chases him like crazy, I thought he wanted to eat the feline but in reality what he wanted was something else. Finally I caught up with him in an alley, the dog with his tongue out already had the kitty cornered with the "cannon" pointing at him, as if asking him to turn around, raise his tail, close his eyes and ..... well you can imagine, but fortunately I got there in time and was able to stop the dog from making the poor cat his own, before that I thought I had seen it all in my life.

That dog was a sexual maniac, it must be that in the street nobody could resist him, I suspect that he didn't care much about gender or species, anyone who put his tail in front of him ran the risk of being "loved" by my dog. He was ugly, but the little dogs in the neighborhood loved that manic rascal available 24/7 to love. Since I brought him home I don't remember seeing the block with so many puppies all over the place...and I think of some small animals of unknown species.

The truth is that the neighbors hated Koqui, they detested his ugly presence and his sexual freedom, only I loved him and respected his way of being and he thanked me by giving me his friendship, affection and fidelity. No matter the size or strength of whoever tried to bother me, Koqui gave his life for me. And that's how we both lived, me taking on his strange behavior and him defending me from everyone. One day I was returning home from a party and it seemed strange not to see my friend at home, I looked for him everywhere and nothing, I asked for him and no one in the family knew about his whereabouts. I went out to the street to look for him and nothing, I didn't see him, he just disappeared.

I left his leash hanging on the door of my room and the pillow where he slept at the foot of my bed waiting for his return, I wanted to think that he was after some elusive cat, chasing him to the end of the world and that after satisfying his fieriness he would come home with his wild eyes and his mischievous smile. I never saw him again, eventually I left home too, but I will never forget Koqui, the ugliest and most special dog in the world.

Thank you for your comment, I agree with you, dogs are our best friends.

I find the story to be touching though...

Yes, I wanted to tell the story of my first pet, it was many years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday.

Lol..maybe it's because I love and admire dogs so much...I do not like using the word "ugly" for them...

I understand you, in my case I included that word because all the people who knew Koqui told me that he was a very ugly dog, I never cared about his looks, I was very happy with him although I recognize that many times he gave me some headaches.

The mirror behind me just cracked! What a wonderful story though.

...ving me his friendship, affection and fidelity.

The dog does not seem to be one of 'fidelity' though.

He was a very independent dog, he did what he wanted. His fidelity towards our friendship was not in doubt, now, I can't say the same about him towards his sentimental tastes with other animals.
