If I can give just one piece of advice, then this is you shouldn’t write just for the money.

Money is not the primary goal, but a side-product. Without love for writing, you probably won’t profit from it, anyway. Don’t focus on achieving top results, although keep track of your income, since you want to know if writing can become a profitable endeavor.

The amount of $500 monthly is not enough for anyone living in a Western Country. The living cost is just too high. Probably someone living alone will require just that amount to barely cope with the monthly expenses. $500 is not even close to the average wage in any Western country and many rising Asian economies.

In this context, the “successful “part in this title may not be correct, but I always want to be honest and transparent with my followers. With this article, I explain how someone like me, with certain knowledge in a niche market (cryptocurrencies), and no prior experience as a blogger or writer, make at least $500 monthly.

This amount is at the same time way higher than many parts of the world, where the average wage is just a couple of dollars daily.

Yes, the world is not fair and never was. The cost of living depends on aspects we rarely consider, which also affect the quality of life and eventually on the average lifespan.

All platforms allow us to republish our content. Unless we are in a contract, then we can republish anywhere we want, however, always under certain conditions.

Everything we write belongs to us and nobody else can use it unless we permit it. The same goes for images, pictures, art, music. We can only use public domain and content licensed as “Creative Commons”.

One time I found a user plagiarising content from a fellow writer at Publish0x. They didn’t have the same username either, but it meant nothing if they did. To make sure, I visited the article at Publish0x and left a comment. It was plagiarism, and we both reported this user.

Links or not, there should be ways to verify that the accounts belong to the same person. Scammers are trying to trick viewers and we want to be as transparent as possible. We don’t just republish our work and not mention the source. This is the wrong approach.

I am originally posting my articles on read.cash. In the beginning, I didn't republish anywhere else but found it is a common practice and understandable so, since we want our work to maximize our viewership and for our work to have the most exposure possible.

The main reasons I've chosen read.cash to originally publish my work are:

It is the highest paying platform for writers
It offers payments in Bitcoin Cash cryptocurrency
It is a model platform for writers and bloggers, extremely user-friendly, fast, smooth, and reliable, and has a helpful and interactive community

I am trying to attract some quality authors to join and create content for read.cash and have created articles about this on Hive and Medium.

During last month (September), my articles on read.cash were rewarded with $520 in total ($368 was the profit). There have been other months I was rewarded with more than $1,000 thanks to the generous tips of Marc De Mesel (top donor on read.cash) and more community members.

Medium - $100

Medium pays writers from selected countries. I write this because I always get questions, but when it will accept all countries, you would already know of it. Anyway, this is the list of accepted countries for Medium’s Partner Program.

Sometimes my work gets a lot of exposure from Medium. But this is also positive since 99% of my articles are originally published at read.cash and this is something always explained to my followers in any platform I am using.

I consider my approach at Medium an advertisement for read.cash and hoping that I have managed to attract a few writers since Medium on average pays around $100 monthly which is relatively low for the high quality of content most writers provide there. Competition is fierce at Medium and the system is about paying the 5% top. Lately, it has even lowered the payments and I am considering the possibility to stop publishing at Medium.

This article ("The Final GBTC Unlock") brought more than 6000 viewers on the Medium platform and has 4 minutes average reading time by each of them. As we can see it didn't pay anything special, just $38 so far.

With this article , I provided clear information to the reader about the GBTC unlocking "event" this July, something that nobody else had analyzed as I did at that time.

This same article was originally published at read.cash and didn't do well. It did worse than almost any other article I've written before there.

This is possible since there is a different audience between the platforms we use. I expect most Medium paying customers to have limited knowledge in Cryptocurrency and rely on the platform crypto writers for core information. Moreover, this information was targeting those heavily invested in BTC and perhaps some even in GBTC. The read.cash writers either know this information already or probably don't care to read it.

Yet, in Medium this story was successful while in read.cash which is the main platform I use wasn't.

This is why as writers we have to republish our content. We can't know for sure one article will attract the attention of the community or not. We have better chances though when we publish in many communities.

There were bits and pieces of information about this topic on dozen websites and with my knowledge of Grayscale products, I gathered and offered a clear explanation.

Medium stats for July

Just one article pushed my viewers close to 10k for July on Medium. But the payment wasn’t as expected.

It was important for me as a writer to have articles trending, and I had more so far, but that changed nothing when it comes to payment. I didn’t make more than $150 on Medium for July and it was a $100 bonus that made the difference.

Medium gave me a bonus of $100 since it claimed I was between 1000-1500 in the viewer ranking, which is non-transparent statistic since this list is not available to the public.

Anyway, on an average from Medium, I earn $150/month (on average), which is also taxed by the US government by 30%. Yes, this is a tax for non-US partners of Medium. So in July, the income was $180. Which was still fine, since I was only reproducing my work there.

My last month of September in Medium was extremely poor. While my stats were no different from August’s, the payments from the partners’ program were very low. It is just $30, which brings the average down to about $100.

Current Medium Views Count

I am still trying to find the reason, and think it might have to do with deleting some early posts after trying to re-approach the platform. Once I deleted some posts that were not related to cryptocurrency, the payments started moving lower. Maybe there is a different payment system started in September since now Medium also has an affiliate program included. Still, for similar views count in June the payment was about $200 (with bonus included).

My suggestion is even if Medium doesn't accept your country, you should try it nonetheless. Have some time republishing your content, you may find people will want to follow you on other platforms, so it is worth it. It takes some time to get accustomed to the platform but it is easy and worth it.

Don't always look for rewards, bounties, and payment options, do something for others too.

Noise.Cash ($200)

You can make $200 from noise.cash but not immediately as you signup. It all depends, but you will need some time to grow in followers, maybe a couple of months. The most basic advice I can give is that you have to produce quality content. This will help you increase followers faster.

I started making more than 0.3BCH ($150) from noise.cash after three months using it, although in the beginning I was a little shy there, and wasn't frequently using it. Now I am getting total tips closer to 0.5BCH ($250) monthly.

Same as with read.cash, noise.cash also pays in cryptocurrency (Bitcoin Cash). The price of BCH fluctuates so finding the exact amount is not easy, but in general, $200 will be achievable after a couple of months.

Bitcoin Cash is traded in hundreds of exchanges and its price fluctuated in September between $450 - $800.

I will have to include Hive, but it takes a special dedication to understand how this system works. I still haven't figured out how to use it properly but still, I think that lately, I am moving in the right direction. I put the time to create original content for Hive but I have also republished a lot of my work from other platforms.

The result wasn't as I expected, but it seems that with time it can grow into a good extra source. I am making about $30 monthly (on average) from Hive, although I haven't withdrawn anything. I hold $120 today in Hive Power which helps with curations and probably will help with receiving better rewards later.

I haven't interacted with other writers as much as I would have wanted though. This possibly costs me a loss in potential followers and viewers. While at times I feel abandoning Hive, I still never losing hope, there is always an approach that will work.

Probably there are Hive users that earn top rewards today and will laugh at my confusion and how I still haven't managed to crack this platform, but trust me it hasn't been easy since very few are giving clues on how to properly use Hive and obtain the best results.

Anyway, I still mention Hive, because it is providing some good income to many other writers and I think it deserves to be on this list, even though it has been the least profitable platform I've used.

You can all achieve this kind of money. These are the lowest estimates I earn and it adds up to more than $600. And I am not a professional writer. Yes, I have experience and put a lot of effort and hours into it, but what I think helped me more is my passion for writing.

$500 for some people is double their average wage working in the fields or a call center. I don’t discriminate and understand completely that living cost varies between different regions.

Someone with $2,000 income living in New York would barely cope with the monthly expenses. This article will probably not help this person a lot.

If your living expenses are above $1,000 probably this article will not help you either. On average I make less from writing too. I have investments and other income streams that help me get by and for the previous two years, I have made some good trades that paid me more than two years of working an 8hour shift.

You can manage a side-income of $100-$200 on average even if you work full-time. It can be an extra income for those working and want to produce some more with their free time.

The advice I offer is coming from personal experience but I have also always been fair to the platforms.

I was always honest with my approach to the websites I used and was always transparent with my followers.

I always followed the rules, promoted the websites, and tried to increase the content quality without creating problems.

I despise and fight plagiarism. These are just cheaters focused on grabbing money and offering nothing in return, eventually destroying amazing websites.

Don't expect to make more. This is a good average income you can make but this doesn't mean it will be the ceiling. With persistence, you can make anything happen.

This is how I approach writing and also try to get better at it. Without improvement, we will not notice an increase in viewers, which is what we most want.

Put effort in it, love what you are doing and you will eventually find people will understand this is not just for the money but this is your passion and they will reward it.

First thing to do when joining read.cash is to backup your wallet seed. The website has no access to your wallet and there is no recovery. Save the seed and you can even import it in another wallet service (i.e. Bitcoin.com).

Now, about the website, I suggest to start reading the notifications that will begin ariving.

The website is user friendly. You will find how to navigate easily. I haven't written a complete guide for Read.Cash yet, but I can give you some pointers.

Write at least 3-minute reading time material
You can republish, but tips will be higher if you write unique content on read.cash
Don't plagiarize or try to cheat
Multiaccounts are accepted but will reduce your payment (better have only one account)
After you get a few tips, use them to boost your content (I use $1-5 to boost views but you can use just a few cents)
Promote your content in social media
Read other articles and interact with the community

All these will help you find more followers, more viewers and increase the visibility of your articles.

Certainly when none of these are followed, the tips will be way lower.
