Like Licking Honey on a Sharp Knife

For all of us, eating good food is a great pleasure, but when we become full, the stomach hurts and the body feels so heavy. Likewise, when we go to parties and drink alcoholic beverages with friends, it must be fun. But after the next morning, the head felt dizzy and tired. It's the same when having sex with a husband or wife, pleasure in intercourse feels very good, but after orgasm, lust becomes bland and the body becomes weak.

That's the worldly pleasures we feel. Pleasure is short-lived and not eternal. Of all the pleasures that we feel, of course, there is a price that we must pay dearly. It's like licking honey on a sharp knife. We can taste the sweet taste but our tongue will be injured and bleed. What's worse, if we are addicted to enjoying honey on a sharp knife. Desires that are not realized will give pain to the mind, and desires that are realized will make us greedy.

Desires that are realized or not realized will be a disappointment that will make us suffer. Usually, the desire that comes true will make the suffering even greater. We never realize that the failure of desire is a blessing. We are spared the bullet of suffering but we consider it a failure.

In this world, all things can change and nothing lasts forever. The taste that pleases us will turn out to be bland and tasteless. The human mind is always changing and not fixed. When a feeling makes someone happy but can turn into disgust.

The pursuit of pleasure will only make you tired because you will experience ups and downs in the pattern of life. The thing that must be underlined is, you will not get peace from pleasure. To find true peace and happiness, you have to live life as it is. Love and hate just become a background that is no longer meaningful. The last message from this post is "Don't lick honey on a sharp knife"

Beautiful work. I mean, you drew me right into this piece. What do you think @samsmith1971?

oh wow, thanks for the tag @scholaris!💗🙏 Your analogy is great and dripping with artistic creativity. Everything in life is about balance and there must exist periods of quiet respite between periods of high activity and intensity. It's the natural order of things. Physical pleasure may always be short-lived but if we go in with our eyes open and enjoy things in moderation, we can have the best of both worlds. If we are always hankering after the next best thing, and have the means to attain whatever we desire, then we will get bored and tire of the pursuit as well as the goal. We should instead focus on the journey, enjoying life's little pleasures but not allowing them to consume us. If we jump out of life's fast lane and take the scenic route for a change, we wait for the honey to drip naturally from the knife and gather in the bowl before licking that clean. Sure we won't get all of it, and we will have to exercise some patience and restraint, but we will still have enough of the experience to enjoy the sweetness of success. By focussing on those things that bring us true lasting fulfillment, we will always have joy in our lives. Family, relationships, creativity, passions. A really good article which I thoroughly enjoyed. Gosh, @putradaffa, you write incredibly well. I have just looked up some of your other posts and really enjoyed Not all religions are good. Well said, Dear and you just said nothing but the truth and it was just like this post was made for me.

I have felt each and every one of this experiences you talked about here and to tell you the truth it was really delightful and phenomenal when having those pleasures but after a long while later it doesn't give those pleasures again and suddenly it feels like the pleasures that was just experienced was somehow sort of a waste of time and not worth it.

But we don't have a choice do we? I mean we must eat, we must drink alcohol and we must have sex because it would be so difficult staying away from these basic things.

it is not eating and drinking that is emphasized in this discussion. But our wish. We need food to survive, but we don't have to eat the food we want. For example, you are hungry and there is only rice and vegetables. Just eat what you have, don't want pizza or steak.

Hmmmm, that's going to be very hard for me and some other people because some people like to always have their way and eat what they not just want but what they like.

Remember that saying "you are what you eat?"

That be true you know.

How if you don't get what you want? I believe in what the Buddha said that life is suffering, and suffering comes from desire. That means, the greater the desire, the greater the suffering we get.

I get your point, suffering in life is normal and inevitable but when there is a chance to escape suffering then you have to maximise the opportunity.

When you have the abundance mentality, you will understand what I am magnifying to you.

Why settle for less when you can get better and get more?🤷🏻‍♂️

Think about it.

Bless up. 👏🏻🔥😎

Getting a lot is good, but wanting a lot is greedy. It's okay to get what we want naturally. Hope you know the difference

Yeah, I do and I see the point you are tryna make.

So in essence, we humans should not want a lot?

You should know it's deep in human nature to want a lot, greed is natural and almost inevitable.
