"Babe, it's my birthday in two days!"
"Oh it is? Okay" Van replied with a very stoic face. Pat was disappointed. She relayed such good news and got such a cold response. She cuddled up in Van's with all her sadness and slept off.
Pat and Van were in a relationship and as such, she moved in with him. She woke up the next morning, not feeling too good.
"Good morning babe"
"Good morning babe. How was your night's rest?" Van asked.
" It wasn't exactly blissful judging from the last sentence I heard before I slept off, but it was fine. How was yours?"
" Mine was very peaceful". Van said with so much excitement. Pat gave him a scowling look. She expected him to inquire further on why her night was not blissful.
He stood up from the bed and walked to the bathroom.
"Van! What's wrong with you!?" Pat screamed. "Why are you acting this way? Did I do something wrong?" There was no response from Van. When he got out of the bathroom, he was whistling and acting very less concerned.
" Van, I'm talking to you and you are treating me this way. Look! If you don't answer me I will…."
" You will what! You will wat Pat! I've heard enough. You've said enough so please save your breath". Van retorted. Tears dropped down Pat's cheeks. Van had never spoken to her in that manner. He was different.

"Babe, what have I done?" Pat said in a very low tone.
" Honestly, I'm fed up. You have to leave my house. I'm tired of this relationship". Pat was awe-strucked.
" Babe, what do you mean by that? We were barely cuddled up a few hours ago and now you're asking me to leave your apartment? I always knew this day would come but I guess I thought you'd be different. I thought wrong. I'd leave. But I must say, I'm really disappointed". She gave a whole speech but Van was too busy pressing his phone to listen to her. She was totally shattered.
She packed her bags and went back to her house. The next day was her birthday and she got dumped. Her eyes were soaked with tears. They became red. She cried all day. She really loved Van and hoped for a future with him. She spent the whole day crying and eventually cried herself to sleep.

The next morning was her birthday. Friends and family were calling in to wish her well but she wasn't very receptive. She was very bland on all calls and even told people that she had travelled so no one would come visiting. She was just there languishing in all her anguish when she heard a Knock on the door.
"I thought I told people that I had travelled. Who could that be?". She stood up, got to the nearest mirror and tried to tidy herself up. She cleaned her eyes, brushed her hair, washed her face and wore clean clothes. She got to her door, took a deep breath and then opened the door.
"Surprise!!!" Everyone screamed Les by Van. She was amazed. They sang the happy birthday song for her.
"Come in everyone" she opened the door to lead them in. Van stepped aside, he wanted to be the last to get in.

"Hey birthday girl. I'm sorry I messed up but it was all part of the plan. It was all a set up. I would never get tired of being with you babe. It was a very hard act to put up but I just wanted to surprise you. You can't imagine how much I wanted to tell you that it was a prank but I couldn't spoil the surprise. Please, come back to me Pat".
Pat got teary. She was happy that it was a prank but she was still broken.
"I'd make up for each drop of tear you wasted. I'm so sorry Pat" he got on his knees," please come back to me".
Pat smiled sheepishly and hit him on the shoulder.
" Nice prank but next time, don't pull up such a prank. I nearly committed suicide, I was totally shattered Van".
Van got up and gave her a kiss. Then pointed keys to her.

" Babe, what's this?"
" Your new car my love. A brand new Ferrari SUV". Pat screamed her guts out. He hopped for joy and ran out to see her new car. She was very happy. She jumped on Van and got all kissy.
Thank you so much babe, I really appreciate" she said, plastering his face with kisses. Van cleared his throat and looked left. Pat turned and saw the whole family starring. She got flustered.
"Okay babe, let's go in for the celebration proper. There's a whole lot in store for you". Van said.
"No surprises?" Pat asked
"No surprises babe". They both smiled as they walked in.
