THE COFFEE SHOP PROMPT - WEEK 140: «HAUNTED COFFEE SHOP».

Hello, happy afternoon, everyone. It's the week of Halloween displays and celebrations everywhere—in schools, parties, and gatherings related to this day, not to mention commercial sites, restaurants, stores, and even coffee shops. Today I am joining The Coffee Shop Prompt | Week 140: Oct 30 - Nov 5. This is my response to the question posed in the initiative:

As you sit with your warm drink in a bustling coffee shop on Halloween, watch the costumes and laughter swirling around you. Reflect on how this season stirs both joy and a touch of unease in many hearts. Write about a moment when you felt transformed or confronted a fear—big or small—like the costumes around you. How do the themes of change, masks, and mystery in Halloween mirror parts of your own life or emotions right now? Consider what you are shedding, what you are embracing, and what parts of yourself you hide or reveal to the world.

A few days ago, I participated in the pink race/walk in my city, and when it was over, my daughter and I went for coffee near her house, at the Cuantía café/restaurant. Some time ago, I told you about this place, which belongs to the owners of the Orinoco company and is located on the ground floor of the Los Pinos Shopping Center, just below Orinoco.

Previously, they served outside, and there were live shows. Inside, there were shelves with many domestic and imported products. This time, when I went, I was amazed by the change. They also serve inside now, and they removed all the shelves from the center and organized everything around them. It has three areas: the outside area and two inside areas, one with furniture and the other with café-style tables. They sell breakfast, pizza, hamburgers, among other things, as well as snacks and drinks in general.

The coffee is still machine-made, but it's always very good. My daughter ordered a latte and I had a hot chocolate. We had a nice time chatting in the comfortable, air-conditioned atmosphere. But getting into the spirit of the season, yes, the most striking thing was the Halloween decorations in the place. They are already prepared to celebrate this Friday the 31st, with spiders, skulls, and lots of horror in the windows, hahaha.

Regarding fear? I openly admit that I am naturally fearful, but not of life's challenges, rather of things that inspire terror in me, and of death. In a way, although I am drawn to the Halloween tradition because of the costumes and candy, it also inspires a bit of fear in me. Once, when I was a teenager, someone played a joke on all of us at a Halloween party. They turned off the lights and played a macabre voice on an audio recording, probably a cassette tape, but since it was unexpected, I seriously felt a high level of chills.

Many years later, my baby had an uncomfortable experience with a Halloween mask that her dad kept, and my own fear came to mind. I didn't like having that mask in my closet, so I threw it away. Somehow, the episodes we experience in childhood with situations of terror leave some kind of mark and remain in our fears for a long time.

But sitting there drinking my hot chocolate, and my daughter her coffee, looking at the Halloween decorations around us, I didn't feel the same way. Of course, maybe at night, with the place closed and me alone in it, things are different. It makes my hair stand on end, ha ha ha, especially seeing those skulls in front of me.

Thank you for visiting my blog... until next time, when I'll be back to tell you another story over a cup of coffee. Have a great day.

I resonated :) I used to think it was such a hoot, this holiday, and while I still love dressing up, I've become a lot more mindful and aware of the implications of Halloween. I guess it's something that cements with age, because as kids, though afraid, we don't really understand that fear. Life, with its difficulties, makes you go "aha, so that's why I was terrified when I was 6".

Thank you for this reflection :)

Yes, that's the answer. For some reason, the terrifying aspects affected us as children, and now that we know part of the history behind it, we understand the meaning. But even so, I like the costumes, the decorations, the children's joy when they get their candy, and the fact that it's all in a safe environment supervised by adults. Thank you for your comment. ☕🎃

Thank you very much ✨☕

I really liked the Halloween decorations; they are definitely very eye-catching and appropriate for the time of year.

There are some experiences that cause a lot of fear.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.☕

Excellent day.
