RE: CLOSED - Coffee Conversation - a chance to #WinHive

in Cinnamon Cup Coffee3 years ago

First of all, I’m happy that the CCC team arranged this type of post that stimulates the community members to add comments and engage with each others. It feels a lot easier when you see all opinions combined in a single post. Congrats to this decision! And now to the topic itself…

First of all, both Jamaica and Indonesia are well know coffee producers and most likely all the people would like to visit both the countries, but we have to choose one.

Jamaica
I have some special attitude towards this country, not only because I have affinity to the reggae music, but also they have maybe what is one of the most famous coffee varieties in the world - the Blue mountain coffee. I had some encounters with this coffee and they are some of the best coffee related memories.

You can easily see that this region of Jamaica has stunning beauty. Blue mountain gives the name of this coffee, but I think they have multiple of varieties growing there. It’s just the climate that leads this coffee to perfection. And who would refuse a trip there combined with unlimited quantity of BM coffee? It’s not only the mountains, it’s seen in a recent post of @millycf1976 that Jamaica has some stunning Sea/Ocean locations too!

I think a vacation there will be excellent! But… let’s go to

Indonesia

Indonesia is a perfect tourist location and I have ever dreamt about visiting Bali! You can easily fall in love with the nature, even from the photos. My wife has visited Bali and she cannot stop telling me what a wonderful place it is. There are also a lot of mountains, and of course coffee, which likes growing at high altitudes. But… we talk about Kopi Luwak here. Why is this coffee so famous? It’s been a ban in this country, on regular people consuming coffee. All the production used to be exported when the Dutch traders were taking all of the precious crops. The locals then saw this particular animal eating coffee cherries then pooping the beans. No one wanted these beans so the locals started consuming them, finding that they were not bad at all… But I think that what makes this coffee special is the story and the unique “process” of making it. I heard that the beans were not that special at all. I think you can find a lot of excellent coffee in Indonesia, but Copi Luwak is just a NO for me. 😁

So my choice at this case easily would be Jamaica!

Thanks, we do hope that others will realise that there is some value in commenting too.

When I lived in Jamaica years ago, it was always my dream to visit Indonesia (Bali in particular), with the intention of buying and shipping their rustic natural furnishings back to Jamaica. So I understand that it's a desirable destination for many.

However, now that I've spent time in SE Asia, and have returned home to Jamaica, I have a new appreciation for our nature and realise that it's all here too.

It's a no for the Kopi Luwak coffee for me too. There's no way I would knowingly drink it 😅

I think Jamaica would be a great choice for you since you also love reggae and it would be your chance to enjoy all the JBM coffee, which I think you'd probably stock up on to take back home:)))

Oh, and that photo that you've added, really makes me a little disappointed that I won't make it to BM this time 😏

Hive experience is great overall, but when other people get involved, it becomes just another level.

Hopefully Indonesia and Jamaica will both be checked in my “to go” list, one day eventually.

Maybe the fact that you won’t make it to BM this time will give you just one more reason to go back there, sooner than later.

How funny 🤭...I had no idea about the Kopi Luwak coffee process. I hope they get coffee beans in a more hygienic way these days 😅.... But I don't know it would be worth a try and a visit to Bali.

The processing Copi Luwak definitely should meet all the health regulations. I don’t know about the past, but today you cannot obey certain things that can be potentially harmful. 😁
However it is still a NO for me🤷🏻‍♂️

Two very different options but both with their pros of visiting. I don't doubt that Kopi Luwak would be a delicious coffee but I worry about any product involving animals. Exploitation is always a concern in such circumstances. My guess is that the animals live in horrendous conditions in many cases, probably not all cases, but many I'm sure. For that reason alone I would also choose Jamaica.

I would be "full of shit" if I chose to have a week of endless Kopi Luwak coffee over Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee.

Nice one! 👍 haha

I guess if they want to meet the huge worldwide demand of Kopi Luwak, they should involve a lot of these animals. Otherwise they will be forced to sell fake product and pretend it’s all real Kopi Luwak.

Your point is just one more reason to go in Jamaica this time!

Yes that is very true indeed

... Blue mountain gives the name of this coffee, but I think they have multiple of varieties growing there. It’s just the climate that leads this coffee to perfection. ...

The climate is decisive, but two factors are what make it special: 1.- The cloud cover with the humidity that envelops the plantations, and 2.- The manufacturing process.

How the beans are chosen (size, weight, colour…), how they are washed and processed wet. The roasting, grinding and packaging, as well as the security measures of its container, make the JBM unique.

Yup… it’s the whole process that makes it unique!

I don't know, yes, you know the “pewter cups”, well, in Mantica-France, the cup where they serve JBM coffee is a wooden body with a pewter rim. As I remember, the cup is only used “five times” to serve coffee, and then it is discarded…

I’ve actually never heard of this type of cups. Sounds interesting. I’ll probably search more info on them!

That's interesting. I used to work at a luxury hotel in Jamaica, and in the main dining room, they served water in pewter cups without ice. That was a refreshing way to drink ambient water which remained cool throughout your meal:)

I think that is precisely the intention. The temperature of the coffee is kept stable in the wooden area and the pewter ring at room temperature, when your lips touch the ring and immediately touch the coffee, it's a sensation of touch, smell, and taste…

A trip to the dream country would be ideal to enjoy the landscape and above all its coffee, the source of life.

Maybe you could turn it into a Christmas wish.
