Welcome to #SublimeSunday , a tag presenting you with the unique opportunity to post something a bit different, wacky, crazy or just whatever takes your fancy and instigated by me @c0ff33a ☕️
First up though is a #beautifulsunday (hosted by @ace108) photo with a #funkyedit (hosted by @krazypoet) with Saturation to the Max.
Oh I do like to be beside the Sea, and despite the ravages of Coronavirus the yearly pilgrimage to Blackpool has managed to take place this year - despite my own misgivings. Not that it's a huge concern for me, I only stayed a few days and then back to work - the family are there all week. I'll be checking their temperatures and listening for any coughs - even a slight temperature and I'm moving into work!
I can always find some new wall art in Blackpool, it helps that because parking in the centre is so horrendous - I use justpark.com and can always find a driveway a short walk from the centre for a reasonable price over a few days. No filling meters or faffing, and nobody slamming their doors open into the side of your car. Note this is a normal car park - and this is not my reasonably priced French SUV - it appears there is more then one blue one in the UK.
Anyway, the best place to avoid the masses (and Coronavirus) is the beach - and the weather is perfect for days on the beach.
The tide is perfect, first thing in the morning it is fully in, then it slowly moves out exposing the beach fully by 1pm.
A brisk wind ensured Social Distancing was particularly easy.
Quite a lot of seaweed on these pipe protection beams.
Finally the sea - not quite surf capable but makes for some good photos - well by my standard anyway.
I nearly got my feet wet for this one.
Central Pier and Blackpool Tower
Mini me, with plastic gloves - he was collecting shells!
I always find it amazing the Pier is still standing after all the years, a great piece of engineering really.
This Seagull know's where it's at - get too close
Social Distancing dude - your invading my space!
While Saturday was Brisk, Sunday the sun came out and the wind calmed down. A good day for sand castles. Mini me needs a seat to dig holes.
The idea was who could dig the biggest hole, applying a bit of logic I made sand castles out of the removed sand so it was not falling back into my hole.
After I made hole number 1 so deep I could no longer reach the bottom, I started on number 2. And then dug a tunnel to join them both up.
But what to do with my tunnel creation?
Make a channel of course, so we can fill up the big hole with water by pouring it in at the top of the channel.
We had great fun with this, collecting sea water from a nearby pool.
Eventually the sand castle circle was completed, and our creation was quite popular with families walking past on the beach.
Mini me liked my tunnel so much he built his own.
If you look at my hole and tunnel with gully at the right angle - it kind of looks like Luke Skywalkers parents farm on Tattoine!
Great views on a sunny day, enjoying fresh clean sea air.
And the other direction to the South Pier and Pleasure Beach.
And look what I saw while walking back to the car!
And a #funkyedits to finish and interesting weekend, Blackpool has topped the small seaside resorts for footfall post lockdown restrictions - and I can definitely say that was true - it was packed. And to be honest social distancing seemed to be totally out the window, along with mask wearing. The promenade has always had narrow packed footpaths - and walking shoulder to shoulder while passing people going the other way is not ideal even outside. Wearing a mask indoors really is essential, but that even seems to be rarely adopted. You can't help feel this pandemic is going to be with us for a long, long time.
