Light Art in the Berlin Underground
Access to this abandoned tunnel, no longer connected to the underground network, is anything but easy. But once you're down, it's the perfect light painting location. It's always dark there and you have your peace and quiet, no one complains when you wave your torches around or light up the tunnel with pyrotechnics.
Der Zugang zu diesem verlassenen, nicht mehr mit dem U-Bahnnetz verbundenen, Tunnel ist alles andere als einfach. Aber wenn man erstmal unten ist, ist das die perfekte Light Painting Location. Es ist dort immer dunkel und man hat seine Ruhe, niemand beschwert sich wenn man mit den Taschenlampen rumfuchtelt oder mit der Pyrotechnik den Tunnel beleuchtet.

Dominic was available as a model for this picture. Matti was behind the camera. First I spread some fog in the tunnel and then shone the Fenix LR35R with a green colour filter behind our model directly towards the camera. I held a piece of sheet metal in front of the torch. This is where the shadows on the walls and ceiling of the tunnel come from.
I painted the eyes of the mask with UV active paint. I shone a UV torch on our model.
Bei diesem Bild stand uns Dominic als Model zur Verfügung. Matti stand hinter der Kamera. Zuerst habe ich etwas Nebel im Tunnel verteilt und dann mit der Fenix LR35R mit grünem Farbfilter hinter unserem Model direkt in Richtung Kamera geleuchtet. Vor die Taschenlampe hielt ich ein Stück Gitterblech. Von diesem kommen die Schatten an den Wänden und der Decke des Tunnels.
Die Augen der Maske hatte ich mit UV aktiver Farbe bemalt. Ich leuchtete mit einer UV Taschenlampe unser Model an.

In this version, I lit the tunnel with blue light from the back and orange from the front. I can't quite decide which version I like better. That's why I'm showing you both.
Bei dieser Variante habe ich den Tunnel von hinten mit blauem Licht und von vorne mit orange ausgeleuchtet. Ich kann mich nicht so recht entscheiden welche Version mir besser gefällt. Deshalb zeige ich euch beide.

For the shield tunneling machine, I had first set up a tripod with a rotating device in the tunnel. I then attached several LED lamps to it and a small firework volcano on the outside.
Für die Schildvortriebsmaschine hatte ich zuerst ein Stativ mit einer Drehvorrichtung im Tunnel aufgestellt. An dieser befestigte ich dann mehrere LED Lampen und außen einen kleinen Feuerwerksvulkan.

For our last picture, I illuminated the tunnel with green light again, this time with another piece of perforated sheeting. Following this, I burned roman candles behind Dominic. In the last step, I illuminated the front area of the tunnel a little with the orange-coloured Convoy S2+.
Für unsere letztes Bild habe ich den Tunnel wieder mit grünem Licht ausgeleuchtet, diesmal mit einem anderen Stück Lochblech. Im Anschluss daran habe ich hinter Dominic Römische Lichter abgebrannt. Im letzten Schritt habe ich dann noch den vorderen Bereich des Tunnels ein wenig mit der orangfarbenen Convoy S2+ beleuchtet.
WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?
Light painting is a unique form of art. The artist illuminates the scene with diverse light sources and paints light traces into the picture with various light tools. In addition, we use various other techniques, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited.
All our pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, our pictures are not processed on the computer.
