I haven't played in years. I was never that great anyway. It was more of a marching band sort of thing and less of an actual drum set. This is sounding great. You need to relax a bit more. You can tell you are thinking really hard about what you are trying to do. As you practice it should get easier and then you can have more fun with it.

The only real drumming experience I have is from when I did some African drumming. With any instrument you tend to have to think a lot to start with before it becomes intuitive. I am having fun anyway. I think I could do with the pad a bit lower, but that stand is on its lowest setting. I may invest in a proper drum stand and make a board to go on top.
That sounds like it would be really cool. I know you are likely having a good time. It just shows in your face how much you are thinking about what to do next and concentrating. My niece is the same way when she plays basketball. You can see her out on the court running the play in her head. In time it will become more natural.
I don't have to think so much when I play guitar, but then I have done it for a long time. Have to put in the 10,000 hours :) I seriously doubt I have played that much.
