Hello everyone, how are you all doing on this beautiful day? It is yet another Friday and the start of what promises a truly loving weekend. We all know that February the fourteenth is a special day not just for lovers, but also for everyone with loved ones. It is a day to show love to those around us, who stick with us through thick and thin.

Today, however, is not Valentine’s Day. Instead, we get to show a selfless kind of love, the love that does not have any reciprocation and does not require us to be loved back. But it is so important for us to observe it. Today is the World Day of the Sick.

Like in other holidays I have been posting, it is easy to guess what the holiday is all about just by the name, but still, I will talk a little about it.

World Day of the Sick is a special day set aside for us to remember the sick people in our midst, take extra care of them, and remind them that they are truly loved regardless of the challenges life has thrown their way. These people do not have to be family or friends; they do not even have to be known personally to us. The only criteria are for them to be sick. Because sickness does not look at loved ones when it strikes.

The day was created by the Catholic Pope Emeritus John Paul II in the year 1992; it was a year after he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. The day also falls on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and it is an important occasion in the Catholic calendar.

But its importance should not be limited only to the Catholic faithful, seeing as we all are bored down by sickness once in a while. When it comes, it does not care about your religious affiliations or race it just does its job.

It is left to us humans to take good care of our own when they fall victim to these sicknesses. Like I said, we do not have to know them personally.

There are so many ways we can help people; we can go to the hospital. In that place, help is always welcome. You can help financially; you can help with your time or with your talent. Just know that with every finger you lift in helping a sick person, you have just reduced their suffering even if it is a little. And I am sure that they would be thankful for that effort.

And by doing this, you do not just get to help the sick. You also help out the staff of the hospital or clinic, you reduce the workload of the doctors and nurses, giving them space to do other things because one of the toughest jobs in the world is found in that medical field.

So, do you have a sick relative or friend? Or is it a sick neighbor? It does not even matter if you know no sick person, you can find. I need you to go and visit a sick person today and tell them you love them. Help them do at least one thing that will make things easier for them. Anything at all.

You will see that they will smile at you and that will be the start of a great recovery, and they will never forget the good you did for them.
